Please accept my humble pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada, all glories to Srila Gurudeva!
On the day before the Vyasapuja of our beloved spiritual master, Om Vishnupada Paramahamsa 108 Sri Srimad Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaja 2 weeks ago, I unfortunately experienced a strong sense of disconnection from Maharaja. Luckily, being in Mayapur City, the spiritual capital of the world that Srila Prabhupada constructed for ISKCON, I was able to summon advice from a very dear and experienced disciple of Prabhupada, HH Parvata Maharaja. He was present at the sannyasa initiation of our Gurudeva, showing him how to put on the sannyasa-vesha, and remembered how our Gurudeva remarkably always was able to keep peaceful in spite of many troubles he had to go through while in England.
Upon my asking for advice, he basically gave me three things to do, which will ensure my reconnecting with Srila Gurudeva. Below is my recollection of the basic three points, with my own elaborations added to them.
1) Pray to your spiritual master three times a day [tri-sandhyam].
2) Keep in touch with your co-disciples and write regularly on your newsgroup [granthraj-sanga].
3) Listen to audio-recordings from your guru every day [guru-vani].
1) Tri-sandhyam: Remember connecting with your Gurudeva and pray to him personally three times or more every day.
As our Gurvastakam goes, dhyayam stuvams tasya yasas tri-sandhyam. So I should not only chant Gayatri at those three times a day, but more than that I should meditate (dhyayam) and reverentially pray (stuvam) to Gurudeva for keeping connected in my service to him. Otherwise, if I don't cling to the sweet memory of Gurudeva, who gave us the mercy (prasada) by raising us in Krishna consciousness, my progress (gatih) is halted: yasya aprasadat, na gatih kutah api.
2) Granthraj-sanga. Use internet to keep in touch with your co-disciples.
So I should write regularly to our Granthraj newsgroup; this sharing of whatever inspires me from Prabhupada's books, in connection with Gurudeva, will keep me always inspired. To keep our inspiration in service to Gurudeva day after day, year after year, keeping regular sanga of our co-disciples cannot be underestimated.
3) Guru-vani. Listen everyday to audio from your Gurudeva. This connection by sound vibration, vani, is so important. At least something we must strive to listen every day.
It is not easy. But this is the way of duty given to us disciples (shishyas) in service to our master or Guru, which is our eternal service actually to Krishna. It is something like to the loving austerity (tapasya) given to a wife in the spiritual ashrama of grhasta life; by her chastity in keeping service to her Prabhu or husband and not others - that is her pure devotional service to Krishna, which takes her back Home after death. Similary, the tapasya given to us shishyas for proving our adhikara for going back to Krishna, is that we stick to the service of our own Gurudeva and not get distracted into other services.
I pray to Srila Gurudeva to get our reconnection with Gurudeva, get refreshed anew, with our taking to the above three items of tri-sandhyam, granthraj-sanga and guru-vani.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
