Gratitude - Part 2

Gratitude - Part 2

Sudarshana devi dasi

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of the class given by our Godbrother HG Viraja Krishna Prabhuji from Brisbane on Srimad Bhagavatam - verse 12.6.2.

siddho 'smy anugrhito 'smi / bhavataa karunaatmanaa
shraavito yac ca me saakshaad / anaadi-nidhano harih

Maharaja Parikshit said: "I have now achieved the purpose of my life, because a great and merciful soul like you has shown such kindness to me. You have personally spoken to me this narration of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, who is without beginning or end."

In the previous offering we heard from Prabhuji

1) we should learn the verses - not using the mobile.

2) Parikshit Maharaj expresses his gratitude to Sukadev Goswami - that because of his mercy, he had attained perfection.

Now we shall hear further.

bhavataa means - "by your good self". "Your good self has been merciful upon me." karunaatmanaa  - who are full of mercy. These words karunaatmanaa and anugraha have similar meanings - that is mercy. What is that mercy? shraavito yac ca me saakshaat - "You have personally told Srimad Bhagavatam to me." Maharaj did this for us. He personally spent time with us, taught us lovingly how to recite, he corrected us. I remember in Sydney temple when Maharaj was giving one of the Sunday classes, he asked me and Devaki Prabhuji to lead the recitation of the verses (2.55-72) from Bhagavad Gita. We both were quite exhausted that day and so after we recited the first verse, Maharaj stopped us and said -"What are you people doing? You are not vibrating enough. Vibrate properly." And then we recited with proper emphasis and vibration - "sthitha prajnasya kaa bhaashaa". No one in the room had Gita book with them. But because we sang with right meter, right pause and vibration, everyone was inspired to recite - And so at the end of it,it was such great vibration and the feeling was just exponential. I remember when we went back home after the program, Maharaj was cooking puris in the kitchen. When he saw us he said,  "Oh, you two recited so nicely - like South Indian brahmanas." That is Maharaja's special mercy. saakshaat means originally, personally. That is the beauty of Maharaj that he personally guided us. Although we are not perfect yet, we want to attain perfection - that is the goal.

Each and every shloka of Srimad Bhagavatam can be our personal prayer to Supreme Lord, to spiritual master. (Prabhuji then made everyone recite the first 2 lines) This is how we should study together nicely like this in a group. Even one or two people is enough. More is better but even if two people come together and study like this, it is enough. Chanakya pandit nicely says that for austerity we need one people, study - 2 people, music by 3, agriculture by 5 and war by many. If you go to war, don't go with just 5 or 6 people. Pandavas can do, but we are not Pandvas (laughter). So war always needs many people. But for study 2 people is enough. More is also better.

Krishna willing we shall continue to hear more nectar from Prabhuji in the subsequent offerings.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much,
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
