Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

Few days ago one devotee shared a nice story about a king who visited a sage to find out the way to be peaceful. The sage asked him to write down the purpose of his visit. The king wrote - "I want peace" and handed over the slip to the sage. The sage tore the paper and gave back one piece to him. The king was perplexed. The sage smiled and said, "What do you see in the piece of paper in your hand?" The king replied - "Peace". The sage continued, "Instead of running behind what I want, if we start thinking about what the Supreme Lord wants, and behave accordingly then we will have peace." The king thanked the sage and returned to his kingdom.

In Bhagavad Gita verse 5.29 Lord Krishna says,

bhoktaaram yajna-tapasaam / sarva-loka-maheshvaram
suhrdam sarva-bhutaanaam / jnaatvaa maam shaantim rcchati

"A person in full consciousness of Me, knowing Me to be the ultimate beneficiary of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attains peace from the pangs of material miseries."

Krishna is the Supreme enjoyer - ultimate bhokta and is the well-wisher of all. When we realise this, we simply surrender unto Him and engage in His service and thereby become free from all miseries and experience peace. But when we fail to know this truth, we try to run after so many sense enjoyments which are actually anartha - not needed for us. When we run behind theses anarthas we become bewildered. In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.7.6 Suta Goswami says,

anarthopashamam saakshaad / bhakti-yogam adhokshaje
lokasyaajaanato vidvaams / cakre saatvata-samhitaam

"The material miseries of the living entity, which are superfluous to him, can be directly mitigated by the linking process of devotional service. But the mass of people do not know this, and therefore the learned Vyasadeva compiled this Vedic literature, which is in relation to the Supreme Truth."

In his wonderful lecture to the above verse Srila Prabhupada gives nice comparison about the disease causing germs and the modes. Just like how vaccines help in saving ourselves from disease causing germs, bhakti-yoga will protect us from the contamination of the material modes and thereby stop the repetition of birth and death. His Divine Grace very nicely says, "Krishna consciousness is so nice. If we take to it as our goal of life, then our life is successful."  Since we are unaware of this process of executing devotional service, Lord in his literary incarnation as Vyasadev has kindly compiled this great scripture - Srimad Bhagavatam. He has also personally appeared in the form of Mahaprabhu and sent His dear representatives, to teach conditioned souls like us about the ways to engage in His service. So instead of focusing on our own whimsical wants, when we refocus our thoughts on what the Lord wants and do accordingly, then we shall experience eternal peace.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much,
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
