Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

This is in continuation of the previous topic "Attentive Hearing" wherein we saw that

1. Parikshit Maharaj did not experiencing any faigue all 7 days, while hearing Bhagavatam from Sukadev Goswami, though he had been fasting from food and water.

2. Sukadev Goswami appreciated his unceasing attraction and attention to Krishna katha.

Now we shall see further.

In Srimad Bhagavatam vere 10.1.16 Sukadev Goswami very nicely reveals the effect of such attentive hearing of Krishna katha. He says

vaasudeva-kathaa-prashnah / purushaam trin punaati hi
vaktaaram prachhakam shrotrms / tat paada salilam yathaa

"The Ganges, emanating from the toe of Lord Vishnu, purifies the three worlds, the upper, middle and lower planetary systems. Similarly, when one asks questions about the pastimes and characteristics of Lord Vasudeva, Krishna, three varieties of men are purified: the speaker or preacher, he who inquires, and the people in general who listen."

Since Krishna's name, form, leelas are all non-different from Him, it has a purifying impact on all those who come in touch with Him. For example in the battle of Kurukshetra wherein Krishna was chariot rider of Arjuna - all the soldiers - from both sides of the army, were liberated at the end of their lives as all of them left their bodies having His transcendental darshan. Likewise Krishna-katha also has purifying effect on all the people who are associated with it - be it the speaker, inquirer or listener. So whether we understand or not, we should always be eager to attend Krishna katha

Srila Prabhupada many times gives the comparison of medicine or fire. We might not know to manufacture the medicine, nor we might know the ingredients used for making it. But whoever takes authorised medicine prescribed by an authorised doctor -will experience relief as medicine will act on our body - irrespective of the fact whether we understand it or not. Likewise fire burns whoever touches it - whether it is child or adult - whether they touch it knowingly or unknowingly. That is why in Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.5.10 Vyasadev specifies Krishna katha as 'jagat pavitram' -  that which can sanctify the whole universe.

Let us pray at the lotus feet of Srila Gurudev, Srila Prabhupada and all the acaryas to bless us with taste for Krishna katha always.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
