Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All Glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

This is in continuation of the previous offering, "Treatise On Trees", wherein Lord Krishna speaks with great affection appreciating the trees.

In Srimad Bhagavatam Lord Krishna says, SB 10.22.33

aho eshaam varam janma / sarva-praany-upajivanam
su-janasyeva yeshaam vai / vimukhaa yaanti naarthinah

"Just see how these trees are maintaining every living entity! Their birth is successful. Their behavior is just like that of great personalities, for anyone who asks anything from a tree never goes away disappointed."

Herein again the Lord glorifies the selfless nature of the trees in serving others. We see that all the parts of the tree are useful to the living entities. They give shelter to so many birds, insects and animals and even if they are felled, the wood is being used by human beings for so many purposes. So whether they live or leave, they are of great purpose and service to others. This is a great quality we learn from the trees. Especially in the case of the sandalwood tree, we see that it perfumes the axe that cuts it. This is the quality of great personalities and saints and devotees that they remain steady in their benevolent nature in spite of insults and difficulties caused by others. Lord Krishna glorifies their life as Varam janma- a superior and successful life.

In the next verse 10.22.34 Lord says,

patra-pushpa-phala-cchaayaa / mula-valkala-daarubhih
gandha-niryaasa-bhasmaasthi- / tokmaih kaamaan vitanvate

"These trees fulfill one's desires with their leaves, flowers and fruits, their shade, roots, bark and wood, and also with their fragrance, sap, ashes, pulp and shoots."

Lord Krishna very beautifully lists how all parts of the tree ever remain useful for others. Our beloved Gurudev always says that our life should be one of contribution to others. He says very emphatically that when we want to be served by others, we are in maya.

Krishna willing we shall see the concluding verse spoken by the Lord in glorification of the trees, in the ensuing offering.

Thank you very much,
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Vaijayanti mala devi dasi,
Abu dhabi.
