Krishna Reveals Himself - Part 13

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "Krishna Reveals Himself" - wherein we were meditating on the conversation between the Supreme Lord and Brahmaji after He gave darshan to him. Now we shall see further.

In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 2.9.24 Lord Krishna says

srjaami tapasaivedam / grasaami tapasaa punah
bibharmi tapasaa vishvam / veeryam me dushcaram tapah

"I create this cosmos by such penance, I maintain it by the same energy, and I withdraw it all by the same energy. Therefore the potential power is penance only."

This is a very beautiful verse wherein Lord Himself is saying how potent "penance" is. Even for accomplishments in the material world - we have to put our endeavours. Nothing comes free of hard work. A student has to endeavour to study the subjects nicely in order to perform the exams nicely. Likewise farmer, cobbler, painter, architect, doctor, housewife, professional or any person in any walk of life, has to endeavour to be successful in their work. So this endeavour holds good for devotional service also.

Srila Prabhupada very nicely mentions in the purport to above verse, "In executing penance, one must be determined to return home, back to Godhead, and must decide to undergo all types of tribulations for that end. Even for material prosperity, name and fame, one has to undergo severe types of penance, otherwise no one can become an important figure in this material world. Why, then, are there severe types of penance for the perfection of devotional service? An easygoing life and attainment of perfection in transcendental realization cannot go together. The Lord is more clever than any living entity; therefore He wants to see how painstaking the devotee is in devotional service. The order is received from the Lord, either directly or through the bona fide spiritual master, and to execute that order, however painstaking, is the severe type of penance. One who follows the principle rigidly is sure to achieve success in attaining the Lord's mercy."

Tomorrow is the beginning of glorious Damodar month and in that sweet pastime also we see that Yashoda Ma, by her sincere endeavours in devotion obtained the mercy of Lord and could bind Him with ropes of love and devotion.

Our prayers at the lotus feet of Sri Sri Yashoda Damodar, Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev to bless us to always remember Their orders and to execute that order for Their pleasure.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much,
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
