Real Meaning of Jaya - Part 3

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in conclusion of the previous offering titled, "Real Meaning of Jaya" which is a partial transcription of one of the nectarean Bhagavatam class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in 1998, in Singapore.

In the previous offering we heard the below points.

1. Jaya means glorification - Any place where Lord appears is glorious.
2. Importance of Writing Notes
3. Real Meaning of Jaya

Now we shall continue to hear further.

4. Jaya should be Lord's Jaya: And the best conclusion from this is, that if we allow Krishna to function through us, then we are definitely to be glorified. If you want our glorification, independent of Krishna, we will never be able to glorify ourselves. And we try. This materialistic people, they become Prime Minister and they glorify themselves, they become President and they will glorify themselves, or somebody becomes commander in chief, and he is glorified. But that glorification is very temporary and it doesn't really survive. In the end they are criticized. All the Prime Ministers of India, they are completely criticized - they are completely gone. Completely buried, nobody talks about him. But we have some excessive attachment to these material positions you know.

There was some Prime Minister in India and he was not keeping well. So people went to him that, "Now please, so long you are Prime Minister. Now you are not keeping well. So you please better resign and make way for some other person so that we can run the country you know. He said, "please, please excuse me. I want to die as a Prime Minister." So people were surprised. Whether he dies as a Prime Minister or a pauper, it doesn't make any sense you know. "No, no", he said. "You don't know. If I die as a Prime Minister, all big personalities will be present in my funeral (laughter)." He is not able to see his funeral, but he wants all the people, great people to come (laughter). How much we are attached you know. We are attached to our funeral also (laughter). That my funeral 12 days must be glorified very nicely. Arey man, after 12 days they will bury your name and nobody will remember you. jagat sagāyi hai do din ki ākhir hogi chalā chali - (From Hindi Bhajan 'Krishna nām ke hire moti')

If you understand this, then jaya should be Lord's jaya. Glorification should be Krishna's glorification. And in glorifying Him, you are naturally glorified. Otherwise we don't have any value. So this is the meaning. And this, Gopis very nicely say that jayati te adhikam. adhik you know, is more glorified. Land of Vraja is more glorified. Why? janmana vraja - because You have appeared there. So in our life also, if we allow Him to appear, we are bound to be glorified. But we find out so many things to glorify ourselves. You know we try to hang upside down, so that people glorify us (laughter). And if you are topsy-turvy then they will be definitely be glorifying. This is how, there is no end to this madness, if you don't come to Krishna. That is the meaning of

jayati te ’dhikaṁ janmanā vrajaḥ
śrayata indirā śaśvad atra hi
dayita dṛśyatāṁ dikṣu tāvakās
tvayi dhṛtāsavas tvāṁ vicinvate

They say, and each gopi is reciting one verse you know. Whenever you find time, you should go to 10th canto and read that chapter from Krishna book and learn these verses. They are nice. That tava kathāmṛtaṁ  is also in this. (SB 10.31.9) So this is how, as soon as we understand you know, the importance of jaya, then with all that realization, we sing jaya very nicely. That is our (way). Prabhupada said that this from Mangal Aarti to Bhagavatam class or noon arati or shayana arati, it doesn't matter what arati you are performing, or what you are discussing. But don't make it ritual, mechanically, you know. So whenever you sing, you should sing lovingly you know, through the heart.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Divya Rupa devi dasi
