Vedic Way of Life - Part 2

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of the wonderful class, given by our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami on the occasion of Vyasa Puja celebration of Srila Prabhupada in Houston, many years ago. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj about,

1) Vedic life suggested by Srila Prabhupada.
2) The miracle of Krishna's creation.

Maharaj was telling how wonderfully Krishna has created the ears. When misused, it gets damaged and we don't have any spare-part shop to replace it. Now we shall hear further on the miracle of Krishna's creation.

You can change the spare parts for your motor car - like wheel, carburettor, etc. But you cannot replace the bodily parts like that. That's why when it loses its capacity, we have to fix it with so many machines and other things. The same with eyes also, if you stretch them too much, by being awake after 9'o clock in the night, then the cells in our eye start burning. And if we force ourselves to be awake then it becomes red, because the burning is going on. Then the eye is damaged. In Vedic days there was no electricity. There is a village in Rajasthan where even now, fortunately, there is no electricity. So it is custom that before it becomes dark, they will finish the supper and go to the roof of the house. Rajasthan is very dry, no rain at all. So the roof-tops are completely flat. The roofs serve as bedroom also. And there are no separate bedrooms.

3) Disadvantage of separate bedrooms: Separate bedrooms are brain products of the modern civilization. I will give you an example as to how these separate bedrooms harm us. Under the name of advancements, we claim that we have one bed-room, double bed-room or triple bed-room house, four, five, etc. The more bedroom one has, he is regarded to be a more civilized person. But frankly speaking, he is most uncivilized because we don't want to stop our sense of gratification and so we want the young children to be separated. The child is hardly two years old and hankers for the mother's association. And the demoniac father forces the child, "You must be habituated to sleep alone". Father is 40 years old and he cannot sleep without the wife and how can the child be separated within 2 years?

Krishna willing, we shall hear further nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.
