Vedic Way of Life - Part 12

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of the wonderful class, given by our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami on the occasion of Vyasa Puja celebration of Srila Prabhupada in Houston, many years ago. In the previous offerings we heard from Maharaj about few points. Maharaj was explaining how he established the Vedic way of life in different countries of the world. Now we shall hear further.

10. Potency of Srila Prabhupada: Srila Prabhupada has changed the whole current. It was impossible for anyone to change. I don't know from where did he get this inspiration, how did he acquire everything, how did he come here, how did he start here - His whole lifetime, it is so very steep struggle. With all the paraphernalia at our disposal, big temples, this and that, we are not able to attract one living entity. We are happy if there are five people in the Bhagavatam class. Otherwise these 5 people also look from the window as to who is speaking and then vanish. Please don't look to that. Bhagavatam class is Bhagavatam class. Anybody who is going to sit here, he is going read the verse, read the purport given by Srila Prabhupada, and he is going to speak something about the purport. So please don't look to the living entity who is speaking. Everybody speak very nice. Mouth does not matter. It is the inspiration from Him that matters. We are not talking at all. 

11. Be Intelligent: The only thing we have to do is to surrender to His lotus feet. So when we surrender, He guides us. Otherwise what we have? We don't have anything. At the best, we shout, scream and fight. There is very nice verse in Vedic literature

kāvya śāstra vinodena kālo gacchati dhīmatām
vyasanena tu mūrkhāṇām nidrayā kalahena vā

dhīmatām means intelligent people. Intelligent people spend their time by kāvya śāstra vinodena - reading the scriptures, studying the scriptures. This is how the intelligent class of people, they pass their time - kālo gacchati. Vyasanena tu mūrkhāṇām - Fools and rascals vyasanena - by all addictions like smoking and drinking - this is the worst way of spending the time. And then nidrayā by sleeping they waste time. And when they are awake, they fight with each other. This is the pastime of mūrkhās. They also pass the time. But they pass the time in so many addictions. They pass the time in sleep and fighting, whereas if you be intelligent - you pass the time in kāvya śāstra vinodena - śāstra caksuśa - This is how to be intelligent. 
Krishna willing, we shall hear further nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.
