Vedic Way of Life - Part 15

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in the conclusion of the transcription of the wonderful class, given by our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami on the occasion of the Vyasa Puja celebration of Srila Prabhupada in Houston, many years ago. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj about how time heals all problems if we are patient.  Now we shall hear further.

13. Don't give time for suffering: In Bhagavatam, it is very clearly said that every disease or every difficulty has its own time. If you tolerate, then the difficulty is going to pass away within certain time. And what happens regarding us, if we have a head-ache, we completely jump - "I have a headache, I have a headache". And then you go to the doctor immediately, "I have a headache, I have a headache." And he is very pleased. He cuts your pocket and gives you the tablets and you come home and take the tablet. By that time, the time of the disease is over. So automatically you get better. And you think that, "Doctor is very good. He has given nice, tablets or injection or he cut me. He is very good." (laughter) If the doctor is excellent, he will even take out your original kidney and keep a goat's skin. That is marvelous doctor we find sometimes, who kills you before you die. It is not that the doctor should be criticised, but the way we are jumping around should be criticized. Because we don't tolerate, we don't have any endurance. Don't really.

Even in hospital, if you go when you are sick, you are known as 'patient'. Because you have to have patience. The patient has to wait. He cannot scream and shout, but 'be patient'. And because he has cultivated patience, that's why he is known as "patient". He forgets that and screams and shouts. Then others say, "You are a patient! Understand the word." So why can't you be patient outside? Instead of spending money in the hospital, you have to be patient in your own house. And that is Bhagavad-Gita. This Bhagavad-Gita gives you the life's directions. It is practical instruction. But our eyes are completely contaminated. And we don't have intelligence at all. But we think that, "I am very intelligent. I am a doctor. I am a big business man."

And at the time of death, even when Yamaraj comes, we have to stand in a line, according to our activities. He doesn't recognize that you are a doctor and so you come and sit first in the sofa set. No. He doesn't recognize that "you are a big businessman. So you come first. You give me some dollars." No. It doesn't work out like that. According to our activities, you have to stand in a line before him. And whatever punishments or sufferings is there, you have to undergo. This knowledge you have to understand and that is why you are in a miserable condition. And that's why Prabhupada said, whatever condition you are destined, "Just add Krishna to your life and it will be sublime." He has given the biggest medicine and has completely destroyed the doctors. If you really follow him, you will have no problems. Frankly speaking for years together, we have been following him. At least for 16 years, I am doing. And not a single day I had a headache. You have to have time to have the headache. Suppose you have a headache, then you sit on a sofa set and then wife must be there. And you say to her, "I have a headache". The wife says, "Oh, You have a head-ache! Then take this, take that." Then you are suffering. "I have a headache, I have a headache." On the other hand, if there is no wife and no sofa set, you are sitting in the temple. And you have a headache, you will remember that, "Bhagavad Gita is there. I have to study, I have to do this service". There is no time for headache. You have headache. But where is the time? You must have time to suffer. If you want to suffer, then you must have time to suffer. Don't give time for yourselves. Then you will not suffer. (laughter) This is Srila Prabhupada's way."
