Vyasa Puja Celebrations in Abu Dhabi

Dear Prabhujis and Matajis,
Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances! All Glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva!

The auspicious occasion of the Vyasa Pooja of our beloved Spritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj was observed in Abu Dhabi with intense prayers and remembrance of the intimate relationship shared by everyone with Maharaj. By the blessings of the Lord and our Guru Maharaj around 190 devotees participated in the program and all of them including small children nicely and enthusiastically chanted the Hare Krishna Maha mantra. In all a total of 5046 rounds (malas) of Hare Krishna Maha mantra was chanted on that day. All this chanting is offered at the lotus feet of our beloved spiritual master with feelings of love and humility. What can we insignificant souls offer to this Mahatma who is sacrificing everything for all our welfare and benefit?

The program was conducted in the residence of our magnanimous yatra leader H.G. Svayam Sphurathy prabhuji in the presence of Shri Shri Radha Shyamasundar. The program started around 7.00 a.m in the morning and went on till 9.30 p.m. Devotees from Sharjah and Dubai had come all the way to Abu Dhabi to participate in the program. The devotees became highly emotional reminiscing their relationship with Maharaj and intensely prayed for the good health of Maharaj. After the chanting of every four rounds of the Mahamantra, a video or audio clipping was shown and it revealed the different transcendental moods of our Maharaj. Everyone loved watching Maharaj speaking, laughing, walking, singing, answering, preaching and encouraging the conditioned souls. It was a real treat for the eyes and the ears and especially the soul. Also, nice prasadam was served to all the devotees throughout the day. We were really experiencing the Vaikuntha atmosphere in Abu Dhabi spending the whole day chanting and remembering Maharaj.

H.G. Svayam Sphurathy Prabhu spoke very feelingly about the transcendental qualities of Maharaj and made us remember the three instructions which Maharaj has given us recently.

1. Perform your office job and other duties meticulously well.
2. Take good care of the family.
3. Never forget BBC - Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatam and Chanting.

Maharaj is always insisting on improving our behaviour and relationship with the other living entities because all the problems we face in life are rooted in our dealings with the other living entities. In this context, H.G. Svayam prabhuji quoted the following verse from Srimad Bhagavatam 4.8.34:

guṇādhikān mudaṁ lipsed anukrośaṁ guṇādhamāt
maitrīṁ samānād anvicchen na tāpair abhibhūyate

Every man should act like this: when he meets a person more qualified than himself, he should be very pleased; when he meets someone less qualified than himself, he should be compassionate toward him; and when he meets someone equal to himself, he should make friendship with him. In this way one is never affected by the threefold miseries of this material world.

The general tendency is that when we meet someone who is more qualified than us, we become envious (asūyā). With equals we become competitive (spardhā) and those who are less qualified, we tend to neglect (tiraskārāḥ). This tendency and the way to get out of it is very wonderfully explained in Srimad Bhagavatam 11.29.15:

nareṣv abhīkṣṇaṁ mad-bhāvaṁ puṁso bhāvayato ’cirāt
spardhāsūyā-tiraskārāḥ sāhaṅkārā viyanti hi

For him who constantly meditates upon My presence within all persons, the bad tendencies of rivalry, envy and abusiveness, along with false ego, are very quickly destroyed.

Our aim of performing the various devotional activities is to become dear to Krishna and the way to become very dear to Him, is very wonderfully explained by The Lord Himself in Srimad Bhagavad Gita 12.13 -20 verses. Of this the very first line of the very first verse is ‘adveṣṭā sarva-bhūtānāṁ maitraḥ karuṇa eva ca’. Here the Lord talks about the three qualities of being Non-envious (adveṣṭā), friendly (maitraḥ) and kindly (karuṇa). This shows us that with our superiors we should be non envious, with equals we should be friendly and with those who are less qualified we should be kind. Person behaving this way becomes very dear to Krishna.

Now we may become anxious as to how to develop these qualities or change our svabhava (innate nature) so that we can become dear to Him. The easiest way is to chant the Holy names of the Lord, by which the heart becomes completely purified. This is proved in the Ramayana pastime of the monkeys throwing stones with the name of Lord Rama written on them. With that the stones started floating. If the nature of the stone, which is to sink in water, can be changed with the Lord’s name on it, why not our nature or svabhava change by the chanting of the Holy names?

So, let us all pray as Srila Rupa Goswami prays in Padyavali,

viceyāni vicāryāṇi vicintyāni punaḥ punaḥ
kṛpaṇasya dhanānīva tvan-nāmāni bhavantu naḥ

O Lord, just as a miser continuously collects, counts and remembers his money, in the same way, let us continually collect, count and remember Your Holy names.

HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj ki Jai! Srila Prabhupada ki jai!

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
