Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

Today is the auspicious day of Sri Ramachandra Vijaya Utsava (Victory of Lord Rama), the day when Lord Rama defeated Ravana in the battle and rescued Mother Sita from his captive. Usually we think that the word victory applies only to battle field, but in case of Lord Rama, His entire incarnation was about gaining victory over different kinds of living entities. The Ramayana beautifully states how gained victory over different kinds of people. There was no one who did not glorify Lord Rama.

satyena lokaan jayati dheenaan dhaanena raaghavah
gurun sushrushayaa veero dhanushaa yudhi shatravaan

"Lord Rama conquered the worlds by Truth, the poor people by His charitable nature, the teachers and sages by His service attitude and the enemies by His mighty bow." - (Ayodhya Khanda 12.29)

Even the demons who thought Lord Rama to be their enemies were conquered by His qualities such as truthfulness, valor and beauty. After Lord Rama killed Vali from behind the tree, Tara the wife of Vali glorified Lord Rama for His righteousness and His control over the senses. Maricha who came as golden deer also glorified Lord Rama for his spiritual qualities and advised Ravana to make friendship with Lord Rama. Great devotees state that more than anyone else Ravana's family glorified and were defeated by Lord Rama's valor and qualities!!! Surpanaka was conquered by His beauty, Vibhishana was conquered by His merciful nature and character and Ravana was conquered by His valor.

And Hanumanji who is a strong celibate from his birth and has no attachment to anything else is completely captivated by the beauty and character of Lord Rama. When Lord Rama completed His pastimes and was about to ascend to the spiritual world, He asked everyone interested to come with Him. But to this request, Hanumanji replied,

sneho me paramo rajan / tvayi nityamm pratishtithah
bhaktischa niyataa veera bhaavo naanyatra gacchati
yaavadramakathaan veera shroshye aham prithivitale
taavachchharire vatsyantu mama praana na samshayah

"O Supreme King, My love for You is great and my devotion is firmly established in You. I do not want to go anywhere (leaving this world where I served You). As long as I hear Rama katha in this world, I want to remain in this world remembering you." - (Uttara Khanda 40.15-16)

We see that even so many years after the Rama lila, still Lord Rama is conquering everyone by His narrations in Ramayana and His wonderful deity forms across the globe. And our victory in life is to acknowledge the Lord's victory in every sphere. This is done by becoming attached to Him by hearing about Him and chanting His holy names and follow in His footsteps. The Bhagavata purana describes this as follows, sthitir vaikuntha-vijayah poshanam tad-anugrahah (SB 2.10.4) - "The right situation for the living entities is to obey the laws of the Lord and thus be in perfect peace of mind under the protection of the Supreme Personality of Godhead."

Srila Prabhupada explains in the commentary, "Therefore the original creator of the universe is Vishnu, and He is also the maintainer of the created beings by His causeless mercy. As such, it is the duty of all conditioned souls to acknowledge the victory of the Lord and thus become pure devotees and live peacefully in this world, where miseries and dangers are always in existence."

On this auspicious day, let us pray to our beloved spiritual master and Srila Prabhupada so that we acknowledge the victory of Lord Rama and become attached to Him in devotional service.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Gurudeva,
