In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination of devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place
People in general, being bewildered by the illusory energy of the Supreme Personality of godhead, are always engaged in animosity toward one another. But devotees, even at the risk of their own temporary lives, try to save them.
Srimad Bhagavatam which is completely auspicious form of the Lord has come to us because of this particular inevitable notice of death to Parikshit Maharaj within seven days. But in contrary to the material world Parikshit Maharaj says that Lord has graciously overtaken him by the death notice.
Material wealth and opulence are only illusory. Actually they are not possessions but entanglements because by enjoying the material world a conditioned soul becomes more and more entangled by incurring debts for his present enjoyment.
The above verse describes the six things that will be destroyed when a man persecutes great souls. When we do ‘mahad-atikramah’, we are bound to be completely baffled in all our attempts and we can remember all the six things that will be destroyed by remembering the word ‘BAFFLE’.
There is no cleanliness. It starts with C. Because we are not clean, our relationship is not clean. Our behaviour is not clean, Our mind is not clean. Our things are not well arranged. Everything becomes unclean and may be if Krishna is not merciful we may suffer from diseases.
Lord Brahma said: "My dear son, O lord of the world, I am very pleased with you, and I desire all blessings for both you and your wife. You have without reservation surrendered yourself unto me with your heart for my instructions.
My dear King, do not be agitated and anxious because your sacrifices have not been properly executed due to providential impediments. Kindly take my words with great respect. We should always remember that if something happens by providential arrangement, we should not be very sorry. The more we try to rectify such reversals, the more we enter into the darkest region of materialistic thought.
Persons who are actually intelligent and philosophically inclined should endeavor only for that purposeful end which is not obtainable even by wandering from the topmost planet [Brahmaloka] down to the lowest planet [Patala]. As far as happiness derived from sense enjoyment is concerned, it can be obtained automatically in course of time, just as in course of time we obtain miseries even though we do not desire them.
Anything expressed by material vibrations, anything ascertained by material intelligence and anything experienced by the material senses or concocted within the material mind is but an effect of the modes of material nature and therefore has nothing to do with the real nature of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
O expert and thoughtful men, relish Srimad-Bhagavatam, the mature fruit of the desire tree of Vedic literatures. It emanated from the lips of Sri Sukadeva Gosvami. Therefore this fruit has become even more tasteful, although its nectarean juice was already relishable for all, including liberated souls
One should simply try to develop his Krishna consciousness and not waste his time trying to improve his material condition. Actually the material condition cannot be improved. The process of improvement means accepting another miserable condition.
But hardly one knows that Lord Krsna has already stamped and certified this world as "dukhalayam ashaashvatam" "a temporary place full of suffering". Prabhupada writes in the purport, "Material wealth and opulence are only illusory. Actually they are not possessions but entanglements because by enjoying the material world a conditioned soul becomes more and more entangled by incurring debts for his present enjoyment."
Drdha-nishcayah - Engaged in devotional service with determination
Determination means to finish it, or see the things through to their end. The following is the story of how a sparrow displayed the lesson of how one should be determined:
Devotional service, which is based on the foreground of full knowledge combined with detachment from material association and which is fixed by the aural reception of the Vedanta-shruti, is the only perfect method by which the seriously inquisitive student can realize the Absolute Truth.
- We should have the minimum things for subsistence. More than that is theft.
- Anything anti-Bhagavatam or Bhagavad Gita, you are harming your health. That you do not know. There is very intimate connection between the well-being of the body and following of Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad gita. Apart from spiritual progress, for our material life also to run smoothly, we have to have these things.
While living one may be proud of one’s body, thinking oneself a very big man, minister, president or even demigod, but whatever one may be, after death this body will turn either into worms, into stool or into ashes.
I have the very same Gandiva bow, the same arrows, the same chariot drawn by the same horses, and I use them as the same Arjuna to whom all the kings offered their due respects. But in the absence of Lord Krishna, all of them, at a moment’s notice, have become null and void. It is exactly like offering clarified butter on ashes, accumulating money with a magic wand or sowing seeds on barren land.
Maharaj once said that:
- Ungratefulness is the cause of our destruction
- We must be grateful to every living entity
- If one smiles at us, we must be happy
- One who is frowning at us, pointing out our mistakes, we should be ready to be corrected
Inspite of all these naked truths, we still run after these warranty-less objects and have full faith in the words of fallible entities. If only we have faith in the infallible words of Lord Krishna and in our own puny capacity follow what He recommends, then we can become so dear to Him as He concludes the 6th chapter with this beautiful sloka (BG 6.47)
One must conquer the modes of passion and ignorance by developing the mode of goodness, and then one must become detached from the mode of goodness by promoting oneself to the platform of shuddha-sattva. All this can be automatically done if one engages in the service of the spiritual master with faith and devotion. In this way one can conquer the influence of the modes of nature.
The Lord has set the trap for the living entities in the form of His transcendental names, His various beautiful enchanting forms, scriptures, His pure devotees and so on. In this way He conquers the living entities and being pleased with the person’s defeat He asks, "Who is defeated?" and the person replies, "Victory is yours! jitam te! Jai Ho! I actually belong to You and You have now conquered me and have taken back your property."
We do mistakes or engage ourselves in sinful activities because we simply don't care about the consequences of the same. This "don't care" attitude is because we are so lusty that we become insensitive to other's feelings and selfishly think about our own convenience. When our selfish desires are not fulfilled, it agitates our mind and leads to anger - the most dangerous weapon which hurts everyone around us including our own self. Instead of doing things as per our wish and convenience we should always think what pleases Krishna and be ready to go the extra mile for Krishna.
