The Lord appreciates Lord Brahma for his depth of Vedic wisdom and thus encourages him in the matter of executing the creation. Our nature is to find fault with everyone and discourage them. As our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj says - "Encouragement is Krishna consciousness."
Because of our illusion, in order to hide our illusion, we have to cheat others and definitely we will cheat. As soon as we get the opportunity we will cheat and that is cheating propensity. It is known as vipralipsa.
We do commit mistakes. Being in a material body we cannot avoid the mistakes and so many mistakes we commit in our daily life and it is known as ‘bhrama’. The greatest mistake is we do not recognize the reality. We are in this world. We are here for a very temporary time. Maybe 50,60,70,80 years or maybe a few living entities more than 80. But we do not know that. We have seen so many living entities dying. Those from our society, from our own family, from your family and everywhere the persons are dying. But those who are left they think they are going to be here permanently.
We have changed because we are not Krishna bhaktas. We are dollar bhaktas. So we have arranged everything in the dollar sense. This destroys us. This completely kills us. You please please come to Krishna bhakti and then anarthopaśamaṁ sākṣād bhakti-yogam adhokṣaje– your miseries are completely destroyed.
The thing is that we have to understand why the scriptures are written. Because we do not know the reason of these scriptures, it becomes very difficult for us to understand the scriptures and it becomes very difficult for us to be attracted to the scriptures. We are not attracted, frankly speaking. We always keep aside.
"Devotional service in the modes of ignorance, passion and goodness can be divided into eighty-one categories. There are different devotional activities, such as hearing, chanting, remembering, worshipping, offering prayer, rendering service and surrendering everything, and each of them can be divided into three qualitative categories. There is hearing in the mode of passion, in the mode of ignorance and in the mode of goodness. Similarly, there is chanting in the mode of ignorance, passion and goodness, etc. Three multiplied by nine equals twenty-seven, and when again multiplied by three it becomes eighty-one. One has to transcend all such mixed materialistic devotional service in order to reach the standard of pure devotional service."
Uddhava says in Srimad Bhagavatam 11.29.4 "My dear infallible Lord, it is not very astonishing that You intimately approach Your servants who have taken exclusive shelter of You. After all, during Your appearance as Lord Ramachandra, even while great demigods like Brahma were vying to place the effulgent tips of their helmets upon the cushion where Your lotus feet rested, You displayed special affection for monkeys such as Hanuman because they had taken exclusive shelter of You." Lord Rama showed so much of gratitude to all the monkeys.
Maharaj said, "The glorification of Srimad Bhagavatam can only be understood and effectively transmitted to others when we apply the principles of Krishna’s teachings in our own lives. Otherwise, it will be a theory only without the practical implication, which will have no impact upon the audience. Also, we must take the shelter of the Holy-name until our last breath."
Pure devotees of Lord Krishna are eternally famous and they live eternally in the form of their Vani, purity and memories. Remembering them, their deeds, their causeless and unlimited love for all the living entities will definitely make us pure.
Maharaj insisted that we have to develop detachment from the material things since nothing belongs to us and also reduce our necessities of life and by reducing the necessities of life we are completely relieved of mental anguish and then we will be able to follow the instructions of Srila Prabhupada.
To reduce the material necessities is not enough. It is just the way, it clears the path to go to Krishna and as soon as you reduce your material necessities, whatever time you can save, every moment should be utilized in understanding the supreme truth. As it is, in kali yuga our brains are completely useless to understand anything. But Srila Prabhupada is very merciful and he has given us everything in a very simple language and this should be our goal in short. So try to adjust your life and your activities in this way.
As soon as you decrease your necessities, you increase your health because there is less anxiety. If you don't require anything, why should you be anxious about that? Whatever Lakshmi we have, it goes a long way and you can spend slowly. This is how you are completely relieved of the mental anguish but because of increase of necessities we cannot follow Srila Prabhupada’s instructions.
Whatever you have heard or remembered about Krishna will accompany you. Otherwise, nothing accompanies us. So whatever is accompanying us according to shastric injunctions, that we do not have time to do and whatever not accompanying us, day and night we are busy with those things.
"One has to, first of all, seek the association of pure devotees who not only are learned in the Vedänta but are self-realized souls and unalloyed devotees of Lord Sri Krishna, the Personality of Godhead. In that association, the neophyte devotees must render loving service physically and mentally without reservation. This service attitude will induce the great souls to be more favorable in bestowing their mercy, which injects the neophyte with all the transcendental qualities of the pure devotees."
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has simplified the whole thing and requested us to simply chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. But we are not able to chant 16 names. To be very honest with you, we are struggling so much with our mind just to chant 16 rounds or even one round.
Purnendu Krishna Prabhuji said: "He reasons ill that Vaisnavas die when thou art living still in sound. The Vaishnava dies to live, and living spreads the holy name around." Maharaj is indeed very much alive and will eternally guide us if we sincerely follow his instructions. Prabhuji humbly prayed to Maharaj to help him to hear his instructions sincerely.
Kathamrta Prabhuji glorified Maharaj for teaching us the art of living and art of leaving as well and how Srila Gurudev had left just like the bhakti yogi mentioned in 2nd Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. He glorified Maharaj for inspiring, instructive, thought-provoking, humorous Bhagavatam given by him which were at the same time full of seriousness and gravity as well.
The first thing that develops when we chant Krishna’s names is that we develop Bhakti or the devotional attitude. All of us have Krishna in our hearts. Krishna says in Srimad Bhagavad Gita, ‘sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭo’ - I am situated in everyone’s heart. If He is not there, our soul cannot get the energy.
As Maharaj quotes, that Krishna would give everything but when it comes to His bhakti, He becomes really stingy. Bhakti is such an invaluable gift that once the Lord bestows it to someone, He becomes the servant of that person. So before giving that gift to anyone Lord makes sure if that person is really sincere and worthy enough for that gift.
Maharaj used to say that our behaviour should be so simple that no one should have any doubts about it. He indeed exhibited good character in all 4 walks of life, i.e. brahmacharya, grihastha, vanaprastha and sannyasa.
"The acaryas (spiritual masters) are authorized by higher authorities. Instruction alone cannot make one an expert. Unless one is blessed by the spiritual master or the ācārya, such teachings cannot become fully manifest. Therefore one should seek the mercy of the spiritual master so that the instructions of the spiritual master can develop within oneself."
H G Manohar Krishna Prabhu from Minneapolis :
Prabhuji was remembering how Gurudev very much insisted on the importance of waking up early for Mangala Arati. Maharaj used to say, "Please, please please", wake up early for your own well being.
