Everytime we go into the pages of Srimad Bhagavatam we are always reminded of our beloved Gurudev, H H Srila Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj because he lived, breathed and survived on Srimad Bhagavatam. It was his life and soul and never he has forsaken it at any time. I was just going through one of the favourite verses of Maharaj in Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.6.26
The parents are always worried about the younger generation, particularly considering the kali yuga atmosphere prevailing everywhere. At a certain stage, the children have to leave the protective shelter of their parents, either for their studies or employment etc. At that point it is very important that the younger generation remember the following wonderful instructions given by our beloved Guru Maharaj, in reply to a question by a devotee in Singapore.
Those who have developed that eagerness, faith, that "I must see Krishna in this life..." This life is meant for seeing Krishna. It is not meant for becoming dogs and hogs. Unfortunately, the whole civilization is going on, they are being trained to become dogs and hogs
It is said, 'shabdaadin vishayaams tyaktva'. Shabda means sound. Sound is a sense object. We enjoy the sound. Newly married couple, the husband enjoys the talking of the wife in the beginning at least. I do not know later what happens. But this is shabda. This is sound we enjoy. We enjoy bhajans - Transcendental sound.
The point is we must purify our consciousness. We must know the existence of the soul and you have to go to the third chapter of Bhagavad Gita and therein in the last verses it is very nicely described how soul is the next door neighbor to our intelligence or buddhi.
All living entities in the material world (non devotee, devotee, semi devotee, pure devotee) must associate with the Lord in the form of Time (even though we do not want) and reap the results of our past deeds. We do not have a choice in this regard.
No one can refuse to accept either summons calls or the supreme judgment of eternal time. Whether one is a devotee or not, all living entities in this material world must associate with the Supreme Lord in His form as Time.
So long there will be a pinch of a desire for sense gratification, surely there will be fight between brother and brother, father and son, nation and nation and so on. The process of unity does not stand on the plane of enjoyment or renunciation, the real unity stands on the plane of service which is transcendental to all mundane enjoyments or renunciation. That is the plane of spirit.
We are all blessed with BMW (Body, Mind and Words) by the Lord. When we make proper use of this BMW by engaging our senses in His service, then we will experience bliss and also make the people around us blissful..
The feeling of 'being loved' actually gives us real happiness and confidence in life. It actually gives us the impetus to love that beloved more and more. It is not possible from a material perspective to keep loving someone who does not reciprocate in kind.
Today is auspicious occasion of appearance of Lord Nityananda. As His name suggests, one who takes shelter of His lotus feet will always be happy nitya-ananda. Nityananda Prabhu is none other than Lord Balaram.
As soon as your life is thoroughly purified by the fiery devotional service to Krishna then there is no restriction. Because attachment to anything or any living entity, is the breeding ground of discrimination.
Many a times we falsely think that our relatives will protect us, friends will protect us etc. But Narada Muni is giving us the reality of life. How much ever we are affectionate/loving to some-one, we all are dependent on Lord. We can not save our own selves. Then what to speak of protecting others ?
Today is auspicious occasion of Tirobhava of our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj. It was on the auspicious occasion of Sri Ramanujacarya's disappearance day, last year Maharaj had left to his eternal abode of Goloka Vrindavan to continue with the divine eternal service to Srila Prabhupada and Sri Sri Radha Krishna.
Initially before writing Srimad Bhagavatam, Srila Vyasadev is very despondent although he had written so many other scriptures. At that time his spiritual master Narada Muni appears before him to inspire him to write Srimad Bhagavatam.
An opulence of an individual is not measured by how many houses one has, how many cars one has, or by the count of family members and friends one has. It simply depends on how satisfied we are with whatever the Lord has blessed us with. But unfortunately most of the times we keep craving for things which we don't have and miss out to be happy and thankful for whatever we are blessed with.
Just like how dust gets accumulated in our house on a daily basis, our mind is prone to so many anarthas. So much so we become spiritually blind and fail to see Krishna, who is very much present within our hearts. The above verse teaches us the simple and sublime method to purify ourselves.
And it is said in the shastras that those who do not chant the holy names and fame of the Lord are considered dead bodies. Our spiritual master would say that without performing devotional service, our faces look like rotten bananas. If we perform devotional service our faces will become bubbly like water melon.
In Srimad Ramayana, we see that when Bharata came back from his maternal uncle’s house, he found that Rama has gone on an exile. Bharata wanted to analyze and find out the reason why Rama had gone on an exile and who is to be blamed?
In this material world we always struggle hard to find the fault of others, and we try to take revenge in one way or other. We never admit our mistakes and always point out others blaming the opponent for any issues faced by us. We encounter people who harm us, insult us, plot against us, whose action seem calculated to thwart the successful achievement of our goals.
Almost everyone in this world is looking for an ideal role model to follow in their life. We have seen that in the past, leaders of the society were sober enough to understand their position and behave accordingly. There was a bit of sattvic nature in the leaders even some decades ago, but whom do we have today?
Prajapati Daksha, with an intention of insulting Lord Siva, fails to invite him to a sacrifice for which all the other demigods are invited. Due to maternal affection, Mother Sati goes to the sacrificial arena and when Daksha fails to welcome her properly, being insulted by his offensive attitude to Lord Siva, she quits her body.
In Bhagavad Gita verse 5.22, Lord Krishna says
ye hi samsparsha jaa bhogaa / duhkha yonaya eva te
aady antavantah kaunteya / na teshu ramate budhah
An intelligent person does not take part in the sources of misery, which are due to contact with the material senses. O son of Kunti, such pleasures have a beginning and an end, and so the wise man does not delight in them.
There are two golden words "Thank you" and "Sorry" which we should use genuinely and without miserliness in our dealings with others. But some times we take it for granted and don't use them either due to our familiarity with others or due to our ego
In recent offering, "Please Come to Krishna Bhakti", H G Vijayanti Mataji had very nicely shared with us the wonderful nectar of Maharaj on the four defects
1) bhrama - committing mistakes
2) pramada - being in illusion
3) vipralipsa - cheating propensity
4) karanapatava - imperfect senses
Without Krishna we are completely lost. How to explain, I don’t know really. I don’t know how to explain the importance of bhakti. We are not devotees. We are not bhaktas and that is the reason of all our miseries. The root cause of the misery is that we are not attracted to the Supreme Lord.
