Our maturity in devotional service does not depend upon the number of years we practise bhakti, but it depends upon how we are genuinely seeing Krishna in everyone and remembering Krishna in all our activities. In order to achieve this stage Srila Prabhupada delineates three fundamental requirements of self realization or Krishna consciousness.
The following is my notes from His Holiness Mahavishnu Gosvami Maharaj's class on Srimad Bhagavatam 5.10.10, given in London on October 28, 2007. Maharaja said, "The main point here is that we should be merciful to all others, but we should never be merciful to ourselves - never even to our mind, because then it will force us to sleep. We should order the mind to get up at mangala-arti.
When You (Krishna) enter in my vaacaa then what happens is described in the second line very nicely. sanjeevayati akhila shakti dhara sva dhaamnaa. Prabhupada has given all the meaning. We don't have to do anything. Just we have to go through very carefully.
We are continuing with the transcription of the beautiful lecture that H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj gave in Boston, Australia on 23rd May 1997. Glorify the all-glorious to become glorious. Without Krishna we are living dead: If you want to have yasha, everybody wants to be glorious you know. If you want to be glorious, you have to go to the reservoir of yasha.
On the occasion of Sri Vyasa puja of our spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj, we would like to transcribe a beautiful lecture that Maharaj gave in Boston, Australia on 23rd May 1997. Our vedic culture always forces us to chant Krishna's names first before we discuss anything about Krishna because Lord is all-pervading - Vasudev, Vasudev means He is everywhere.
There is a popular saying that, 'prayojanam anuddhishya na mando api pravartate' - "Even a dullard will not endeavor in any activity unless he has an idea of the benefit he will derive out of that activity." Thus it becomes very difficult to perform an action and not look to the result.
This is in conclusion of previous offering wherein we were hearing from our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj about how we can purify our mind. In previous offering we heard from Maharaj the following points. By doing our activities very nicely we will be elevated Material responsibilities are not impediments to devotional service, but when done nicely they help us to increase devotional activities.
This is in continuation of previous offering wherein we were hearing from our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj about how we can purify our mind. In previous offering we heard from Maharaj the following points. We must take shelter of scriptural evidences, and habituate ourselves to put them into practice. Irrespective of whatever designation we hold in society, devotional activities is common for all of us.
It is indeed very difficult to control our mind. Day in and day out we keep accumulating so many impurities in it. So how to purify the mind? When one of the devotees asked our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj about this Maharaj gave the following instructions.
We have been learning some important lessons in the offerings in this series from the episode, "Parikshit Maharaj Cursed by the Brahmana Boy". In our last offering we were discussing about the difference between 'training' and 'culture'. Then we tried to understand who is at fault? Shrngi, Parikshit Maharaj or Shamika rishi?
With increase in number of violence, crimes, suicides and shoot-outs in this world, and in most of the cases the root cause being, the offenders being afflicted by mental depression, we can see how depression not only kills the individual but also has a very negative impact on the people around. How to handle such situations if such situations arise in our life? How to deal with such living entities?
When the parents send their children away for higher education or employment, their main concern for them is what type of association the children will be having. If by the mercy of the Lord, they get good friends, the parents feel very much relieved. But getting good association is not so easy especially in Kali yuga.
We have been learning some important lessons in the offerings in this series from the episode, "Parikshit Maharaj Cursed by the Brahmana Boy". In the last offering we learnt some important lessons from Shrngi. In that process, we discussed how 'training' is different from 'culture'. We will see a nice pastime from Mahabharat in this regard. When Kauravas and Pandavas were young boys, they were trained by Dronacarya in various skills.
We have been learning some important lessons in the offerings in this series from the episode, "Parikshit Maharaj Cursed by the Brahmana Boy". Last few offerings we were learning nice lessons from Parikshit Maharaj's character. Today we will learn important lessons from Shrngi. Srila Prabhupada says in his purport to SB 1.18.32, "He (Shrngi) achieved good training in brahmacarya by his father so that he could be as powerful as a brahmana, even at that age."

We shall continue with the lessons we are learning from the episode of "Parikshit Maharaj Cursed by the Brahmana Boy".
In the Part 6 of this series we saw the point, 'The source of our detachment is always auspicious'. We saw how Parikshit Maharaj took the curse as an auspicious sign instead of detesting it as injustice.

We have been looking at the episode of Parikshit Maharaj cursed by the Brahmana boy and were learning a few lessons from this pastime in the series of offerings titled "Living the Bhagavatam Way". Today we will see one more important lesson to learn from Parikshit Maharaj. Parikshit Maharaj teaches us a very important quality to be imbibed in our lives - Not to expect gratitude for our favors.

So it becomes very important for us to understand the meaning of sacrifice or yajna.
