These people are not the cause of my happiness and distress. Neither are the demigods, my own body, the planets, my past work, or time. Rather, it is the mind alone that causes happiness and distress and perpetuates the rotation of material life.

This verse is a very loved one by our Guru Maharaja, H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj, who used to recite it in classes. How it came to be composed by the advaitin (monist) Madhusudana Sarasvati is a remarkable story.

After death we experience life beyond a gross sensual body similar to when we dream; our senses are part of our mind so we still experience cognition; the difference is just that now we are to be confronted with our current life's good and bad actions which are all noted by the demigods.

Kriyamaana karmas are the seeds we are throwing out at present; in other words the actions we do in this life. We do many different types of activities in life which takes different amounts of time to bear fruits. Many things we do gives swift results, like drinking water - immediately quenches our thirst.

Neither creating good nor bad karmic seeds or impressions, which are bound to attach one to future bodily experiences, the living entity is feed from karma by Krishna's grace upon him in the form of the spiritual master, who gives him entrance into transcendence.

So first the poet Govinda dasa Kaviraja instructs this is durlabha janma - this janma is not very easily obtainable. One round aleast we have completed of the 8 million 400 thousand types of birth and by gradual evaluation, we have come upto the human existence.

Our dharma - occupational duties must be performed very carefully - prescribed duties. And as soon as we come to this, then nirmama is the thing we should follow and that is we don't have any proprietorship for our circumstances.

You write something; the aim should be simply to glorify the Supreme. Then your literature is pavitra, purified. And however nicely, either literally or metaphorically or poetically, you write some literature which has nothing to do with God, or Krishna, that is vaayasam tirtham. That is pleasure spot for the crows.

That is the main thing to be understood in a short way. Then you have to study the scriptures to understand the constitution of Krishna. The more you try to study, then slowly with the association of devotees, you will be able to understand about Krishna.

At the time of death, would you run after a beautiful girl? When you are dying, you will be busy dying. We don't know when the end is coming. Anytime the end will be there and if we go with dirty consciousness, there is great danger that we will glide down into innumerable demoniac species of life.

That is recommeded in Srimad Bhagavatam, because we are all demons by nature. So solitary circumstances will instigate our instinct, but it doesn't happen when we are completely conscious about the purity of the relationship.

Our life has got to be completely clean inside out, otherwise don't think that you cannot understand these things or do these things. It is your mistake. There is nothing wrong in this process. But you are a demon. If you stop being demon, then this process is very easy to understand.

The house runs very nicely, if the house is under 'one' person. The country is ruled very nicely, if there is 'one' president. Everywhere 'one' is very important. That we have to understand. And this 'one' is coming from Krishna. And because He is "one", He is maintaining the whole show very nicely.

Everything is based on scriptures. In Srimad Bhagavatam it is mentioned as to how when Parikshit Maharaja was ruling all over the planet, he wanted to see whether the people in his kingdom are all peaceful. So he went out in disguise. But to his surprise, he saw one shudra person dressed as a king and beating the cow. He was only beating and not killing.
