The serious inquisitiveness is absent. Thats why there are twenty-four hours a day. Out of the twenty-four hours a day, twenty-three and a half goes in nonsense. And that work done in twenty-three and a half hour could be down in half an hour. (laughter) That capacity we have.
Krishna is so grateful. If you give little service to Krishna sincerely, Krishna will never forget you. And He's so powerful. If Krishna becomes your friend and Krishna remembers you, then what you want more? Just imagine.
A devotee should be blameless because any offense by the devotee is a scar on the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The devotee's duty is to be always conscious in his dealings with others, especially with another devotee of the Lord."
Because we cannot devote twenty-four hours in hearing and chanting, therefore we have extended our activities, program activities, in so many ways. Otherwise, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is so nice, if you practice anywhere, any condition, simply by reading Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, you will be happy. So adopt this practice and make your spiritual life perfect more and more
Prabhupada is very clear - even a small child, you know one maybe starting to learn English and if he reads Bhagavad Gita it would be clear to him. This is the special. So we should also write, in such a way, very simple writing, you know, you all have mystic powers. You all have command over English language. So instead of writing pages and pages for prajalpa, it is better that you meditate on this and you write something.
If you really love to proceed ahead and progress ahead in spiritual life, we should go through Bhagavatam very sincerely. And that too Prabhupada's Bhagavatam you know. All other Bhagavatam are really misdirecting.
When we go as guests to some house, we may very happily agree to be treated like chief-guest. But never do we bother to do any service for the host as we consider ourselves as 'deva'. Whereas the Lord inspite of being 'deva deva' - Lord of all lords, always engages in service all the time.
Somehow or other if we are blessed by the association of the Lord's devotees and through them, the association of the Lord in the form of His deity or scriptures like Srimad Bhagavatam or Bhagavad Gita which are non-different from Him, then we can attain the same perfection which was attained by Jatayu.
Mahapurna said that service to great devotees should be done with our own hands and not delegated to others. He cited the instance of Lord Rama performing last rites for an eagle (Jatayu) and conceded that he is not loftier than Lord Rama and Maraneri Nambi who surrendered his life to his guru is in no way lesser than Jatayu.
Usually Mother Lakshmi is seen on the right side of the Lord. But in this shrine, She is seen on the Lord’s left side. This is because She was not able to bear the heat of the flames lighted by the Lord for Jatayu and hence moved to the left side.
Rama personally blessed Jatayu to ascend to any world of his choice on the strength of His grace. He implied here that Jatayu can go to any higher worlds and stay there for any amount of time and then go to spiritual world at his own will.
The Lord placed Jatayu on the pyre with His own hands and did the cremation. He also decorated the body of Jatayu with flowers, sandalwood paste. He also chanted Vedic mantras such as Narayana sukta which are meant for elevation to the higher/spiritual world.
The Lord is eternal; therefore any relationship in which we accept Him is also eternal...we can love the Supreme Personality of Godhead as our dearmost object — as a friend, as a son, as a preceptor or as a well-wisher — and there will be no cheating and no end to such love.”
This bird which fearlessly lived in Dandakaranya forest and who has a long life of sixty thousand years is now killed and succumbed to the power of Time. It is impossible to overcome the power of time.
Jatayu did not have to make any effort to remember Lord Rama since he was dying in the presence of the Lord and hence his departure was exemplary. Srila Prabhupada’s departure from this world was also exemplary. Till the end of his life he was giving commentary on the Bhagavatam and at the end he was surrounded by devotees and his disciples who chanted the holy names and he left the world in full Krishna consciousness.
Jatayu explained all of them to the best of his ability and finally said, “Also this Ravana is son of Vishravasa and brother of kuvera. The time (muhurta) in which Ravana took away Sita is called Vinda. If any riches are lost during that time, the owner will get them back very quickly without fail.
We see in many places that Lord glorifies His devotees, serves them as servant, performs many pastimes with them as friend, lover, son etc., but here we see that Lord cried for His devotee and shed tears of love and affection.
When Mother Sita saw Jatayu saw fallen to the ground and lying in pool of blood, she rushed towards him as a daughter would rush towards her father. And Ramayana (3.51.44) states her affection to Jatayu as follows. abhyadhāvata vaidehī svabandhum iva duḥkhitā (Vaidehi started weeping and ran towards him as if he is her own relative).
atayu wounded the body of Ravana with his powerful claws and beak. Jatayu’s anger was multiplied whenever he saw the crying face of Mother Sita. In that anger, he shattered the bow of Ravana, who in rage took another bow and showered arrows on Jatayu. Jatayu shattered that bow of Ravana as well.
So when we treat the deities or Lord in picture form or the Lord in the form of His sound incarnation as our family member, we can relish the personal relation. If we treat Him as picture or piece of wood, then our bhakti will not be nourished and it will be mechanical and ritualistic.
Jatayu was willing to sacrifice even his very life, because it will be pleasing to Lord Rama (rāmasya priyam). This is the mood of a pure devotee who serves the Supreme Lord risking his life without consideration of success or failure. Srila Prabhupada exhibited this fighting spirit.
Delineation of the Supreme Lord and His glories is the central theme of all Vedic literature. Vedas are like Mother Sita and She exists only for Lord Rama’s pleasure. However, sometimes by speculative logic, philosophers try to divert the people from the true conclusion of Vedic literature (just like Ravana takes away Sita from Rama) and give wrong conclusion.
The by-products of bhakti are the temples. The by-product of bhakti is the people coming to the congregation. The by-product of bhakti is all the wonderful activities that attract the people, but the essence of bhakti is glorification of the Lord which is done in disciplic succession.
Not considering the respective actions of the brāhmaṇa and the dog, the uttama-adhikārī tries to do good to both. The conception of universal brotherhood must be learned from an uttama-adhikārī. According to the Bhagavad-gītā (18.54), only one who is already on the liberated platform (brahma-bhūta) can become an uttama-adhikārī devotee and see every living being as his own brother.
Here Jatayu's endeavor to stop Ravana was fully voluntary, out of his sincere desire to serve Mother Sita. Srila Prabhupada states in the purport of SB 3.9.38 "Such spiritual perfection is not limited by material qualifications but is developed by dint of one's sincere endeavour to render transcendental service. Voluntary endeavour is the only qualification for spiritual perfection".
