Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis

Please accept my humble obeisances! All Glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila gurudev!

This is in continuation of the previous offering wherein we were seeing the story of the King who wanted answers for the following three questions.

What is the most important person?
What is the most important time?
What is the most important karma?

After the King went to meet the sage he came back with the answers and he shared this with them. The King said, "The sage answered all three questions in an instant. Just when I was in awe looking at my colossal kingdom from the edge, I realised the most worthwhile karma for me was to continue to love my subjects, to care for them and I was the king because of my subjects. And then the sage appeared with my sword in his hand. I was a few moments away from death. I realised the most important time was 'Now'. At that moment my past did not matter and I had no future. Now was the only time I have. 'Now' will be the only time I will ever have. And then the King told the minister that the most important person is the person we are with and therefore the sage was the most important person at that time. If only we could remember these answers all the time, then our life would be greatly transformed for the better.

1.The most important work:  Whatever duty we are engaged in at the moment is ordained by the Lord and we can please the Lord by doing that duty nicely. Lord Krishna says in Gita verse 18.46

yatah pravrttir bhutaanaam / yena sarvam idam tatam
sva-karmanaa tam abhyarcya / siddhim vindati maanavah

"By worship of the Lord, who is the source of all beings and who is all-pervading, a man can attain perfection through performing his own work."

Srila Prabhupada in his purport to BG 18.46 says, "Everyone should think that he is engaged in a particular type of occupation by Hrishikesa, the master of the senses. And by the result of the work in which one is engaged, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna, should be worshiped. If one thinks always in this way, in full Krishna consciousness, then, by the grace of the Lord, he becomes fully aware of everything. That is the perfection of life. The Lord says in Bhagavad-gita (12.7), teshaam aham samuddhartaa. The Supreme Lord Himself takes charge of delivering such a devotee. That is the highest perfection of life. In whatever occupation one may be engaged, if he serves the Supreme Lord he will achieve the highest perfection." Our beloved Gurudev HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj, always insisted this by saying, "Immaculately we should do our prescribed duties very carefully, very carefully. More carefully than whatever we do normally, because it is from that duty we get our own existence. More so in the temple area, because here that is the only survival point, to do our seva immaculately."

Krishna willing we shall meditate further on the answers of the remaining two questions in the subsequent offering.

Thank you very much
