Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

Recently HG Vaijayanti Mataji had shared a wonderful offering titled, "Three Important Questions". Among them the answer on who is the most important person, very nicely brings out how we should treat other living entities. Mataji nicely pointed out as to how it is Krishna's will to bring few the living entities together at a particular time for particular purpose. So seeing Krishna's hand in that relation, we need to treat all of them with love and care.

Few days ago in one of the classes we were having a discussion on our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj dealt with all of us. Irrespective of the fact that whether the person is young child or elderly person, rich or poor, devotee or one who is not aware of Krishna consciousness, people from all walks of life - be it rickshaw-walla or sweeper in the temple, construction workers, sculptors, school students, literate or illiterate, disciples or non-disciples - everyone was easily able to approach Maharaj and felt very much "at home" in his presence. He always lovingly inquired about the well-being of people, whether they had taken prasadam, they had taken enough rest etc... before even discussing about Krishna with them. By his genuine love, care and concern Maharaj inspired so many souls to take to Krishna consciousness. He could see Krishna in everyone and so treated everyone equally with love.  Maharaj practised the below verse from scriptures -

priya vaakya pradaanena  / sarve tushyanti jantavah
tasmaad tad eva vaktavyam / vacaneshu kim daridrataah

"By speaking pleasing words, all the living entities are satisfied. Therefore always speak sweetly, why are you so poor in your sentences?"

On the other hand sometimes knowingly or unknowingly we hurt the other living entities with whom we interact - either by our words or actions and there by become a source of dread for all. Even if they are in danger, people will hesitate to approach us for any help. In this regard we would like to share one nice point which one senior devotee had shared with us. There is a saying in Hindi

aavath hi harshe nahin / nayan nahin sneh
tulsi vahaan nahi jaayeeye / kanchan barse megh

Tulsidas says, "When we are going to meet someone if the host has no smile, and no love in eyes, never go there, even if there is shower of gold."

It is said in scriptures that athithi devo bhava - So it is important that we always extend a warm welcome to them. Even when we are not able to offer any help to the person whom me are meeting, we should at least speak sweet words and welcome the living entities with a smile. As Maharaj says, 'Krishna always smiles at everyone.' Smile does not cost us anything. It is a small curve which can straighten so many things. Our simple gesture of kind smile can give so much courage and relief to the recipient. So as Maharaj insists let us not be miserly in this.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much,
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
