Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!
This is in continuation of the previous offering wherein we were seeing the story of the King who wanted answers for the following three questions.
What is the most important person?
What is the most important time?
What is the most important karma?
We saw that the most important work is whatever duty we are engaged in at the moment is ordained by the Lord and we can please the Lord by doing that duty nicely. Now we shall see the answers for the remaining questions.
2. The Most Important Time: Undoubtedly "Now" or the present moment is the most important time, the most important moment. This is the only moment we can act in. Our Guru Maharaj quotes the following verse from shastras to emphasis this point.
gate shoko na kartavya bhavishyam na cintayet
vartamaaneshu kaaleshu pravartante vichakshanaah
"Those who are wise don't lament about the past - nor be anxious about the future. They live in the present and live it best."
Maharaj said, "Past is always past. Those who behave thinking of the past are haunted by ghosts. We should remember that it is not very easy to see living entity. Anytime anyone will die. This thought would help us to improve our behaviour - to be humble and kind. Today is given by the mercy of Krishna. Make the best use of it. He has given you this wonderful body with the organs functioning properly. The blood circulation in the body is "liquid" mercy of the Lord. Why is He giving these things? These are not for you to be arrogant. You are incapable of creating even a small object and so you cannot dare to be arrogant. Be always thankful to Krishna and Prabhupada and this humility will help you to run away from the pains of the past. Brooding over the past is against devotional service."
3. The Most Important Person: The person we are with now, at the moment is the most important person. When we give our sole attention to the person we are dealing with, we boost their self-esteem, we make them feel important, loved and cared and respected. Gurudev says that by behaving in a pleasing manner we help improve the health of the other person and also ours. He says,
"If you respect someone, the person to whom you give respect will gain in health and you also will gain health. By respecting others, you become happy and he also becomes happy. On the contrary if you disrespect anybody, he loses health and you also lose the health. So do you want to lose the health or increase the health? Choice is yours. And if you want to increase, you have to give respect to everybody and don't expect respect from others. Meeting a living entity is like rebirth. (vartamaano punar bhavah). We are always contaminated by the modes of material nature such that we are not able to smile. Smiling is a big austerity nowadays. A cow is not coming to you, a dog is not coming to you. It is only a human being coming to you and why not you give a smile and speak a few pleasing words?"
Let us always try to remember the answers to these three questions by understanding and realizing that the persons, place, position whatever we are in, are bestowed by the Supreme Lord for our own spiritual benefit and this realization is the greatest blessing we can have for leading to a peaceful life.
Thank you very much
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev
