SB-10.14.3 – Rajkot – 31 Dec 2006

Maharaj: The particular verses in the 10th Canto, they give very nice instructions for the practical preaching you know. Eventually, the pure devotees, they try their best for two things. Number one is to try to go to Krishna through Bhagavad-Gita and Bhagavatam – that is serious study of these two scriptures.  And then number two – whatever they have their realizations, they give it to the public at large. As we have seen already, what is that? “Please therefore, please therefore describe…”

Devotees & Maharaj (repeat the translation of Srimad Bhagavatam 1.5.40): “…the Almighty Lord’s activities which you have learned by your vast knowledge of the Vedas, for that will satisfy the hankerings of great learned men and at the same time mitigate the miseries of the masses of common people who are always suffering from material pangs. Indeed, there is no other way to get out of such miseries.”

Maharaj: We have seen this. So if we really stick to Srimad Bhagavatam, in order to mitigate the miseries of the common people, which is our real concern … Somehow or the other we are fortunate enough to be in this atmosphere. But everyone is not fortunate enough to be in this atmosphere. So those who are not, for them also, it is not the lost case. The Lord is very kind to give the instruction through Brahma’s prayers in 10th Canto for these people also. So we people have some time at our disposal. Really if we use our time and don’t deviate from this path of studying the scriptures seriously, then we can really derive the instructions for the mitigations of the miseries of the common people – who are always suffering… Really very nice sentence by Srila Prabhupada – who are always suffering from the material pangs – It is not misery – pangs. Pangs you know – pangs word is used – ‘delivery pangs’ – when the lady delivers the child – it is a horrible – it is a death experience – The lady who first time delivers the child, she decides that moment that henceforth she will not have sex. That horrible it is, the pangs. It is known as pangs. Prabhupada uses the words very selectively. What is it? It is very nice you know?  - “…at the same time mitigate the miseries of the masses of common people”

Devotees: the miseries of the masses of common people.

Maharaj: who are always suffering from material pangs” – Here miseries are not used. Miseries, I can tolerate. But pang I cannot tolerate. These are material pangs – See Prabhupada!! This is Prabhupada. He gives you the correct idea. And delivery pangs, we don’t know really. Because we are not giving birth. So for mankind – for male human mankind – so far they are not undergoing any misery really. It is suffered by the lady, lady folk – that’s why they are worshiped. They are known as “lakshmi”. To that extent that, whatever they do to us, we have to just excuse her and continue worshiping. She is the only one who suffered the pang. Please remember this. Don’t change the words of Prabhupada, when you learn the translation. What’s it? Again. (Devotees repeat with Maharaj) “Please therefore describe the almighty Lord’s activities which you have learned by your vast knowledge of the Vedas, for that will satisfy the hankerings of great learned men and at the same time mitigate the miseries” … Take out that… Which verse is that? It is 1.5.40...We should bang these translations on our head all the time.

tvam apy adabhra-śruta viśrutaṁ vibhoḥ
samāpyate yena vidāṁ bubhutsitam
prākhyāhi duḥkhair muhur arditātmanāṁ
saṅkleśa-nirvāṇam uśanti nānyathā

(Devotees repeat with Maharaj)

And we can understand this language very easily. Very easily. It is our language. tvam apy adabhra-shruta vishrutam vibhoh – You have vast knowledge of the Vedas which you have mastered. Samaapyate- they only satisfy the hankering of the great person and again at the same time mitigate the miseries … of the masses of common people who are always suffering from material pangs. Please don’t change this word and understand pangs very nicely. We don’t have any idea of the pangs because we are not female bodies. Only females know the pangs. And then in addition to the pangs, again our miseries increase – if the child is female. .. The thing is, as I told you, it is only the female living entities who knows the meaning of the pangs. And Prabhupada had  full idea – From the third Canto, chapter number 31 – The movement of the living entities  before the birth is very nicely described – so we can realize how much difficult it is to bear the child, and to give the birth to the child. And those pangs – now may be because of the seductive medicines or whatever – now the pangs may be reduced – But even then, the body has to suffer – the body has to suffer. And those words are very effective – “who are always suffering from material pangs” – Really we are suffering – Life and death experience and this alone should deter us from having again to come back into this world – in human form or whatever form may be.

Only one sentence should deter us and this is the purpose of scriptures. It gives you the correct idea and Prabhupada is expert in it. And that’s why he is worshiped all over the world. And he should be accepted by anybody and everybody. But we are really so much ignorant – Such a great person, he is with us in his books and even then we are neglecting him. Because we are neglecting him, there is no knowledge with us. You please – we are already in the atmosphere. Those who are really fortunate enough to stay in the temple, they should not waste a single moment in any other things. While driving also, you can do it. While going, coming – you learn the verses, you learn the translation – so that at least you will realize.

And if you realize, then you can impart it to the common masses. This is the main thing in order to reduce the material pangs, again he insists – “And indeed there is no other way to get out of such miseries.” And as I told you – miseries are tolerable. But pangs are not tolerable. And material pangs are there. Always material things, they always catch our neck – unless they are used for Krishna. Otherwise they are going to catch your neck. Material things are meant for Krishna alone. All His expansions of Krishna are for His enjoyment – What is that verse?

bhoktāraṁ yajña-tapasāṁ / sarva-loka-maheśvaram
suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānāṁ / jñātvā māṁ śāntim ṛcchati

bhoktaram sarva yajna tapasam – All sacrifices and all austerities are for His enjoyment . This is separated energy of the Lord.

bhūmir āpo ’nalo vāyuḥ / khaṁ mano buddhir eva ca
ahaṅkāra itīyaṁ me / bhinnā prakṛtir aṣṭadhā

Five separated energies are there and all these expansions are meant for His enjoyment. And that’s why He multiplies. He is alone. But He completely expands Himself for His enjoyment only. Instead we stand in between and ask, “Why should I give enjoyment to Him? I will enjoy.”  And that’s why we are suffering. This attitude forces us into unsurpassable sufferings – sufferings of the material pangs. So once we realize this, then we go to 10th Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam and there is very practical instruction in this verse.

(Referring to Tejasvi Prabhuji Maharaj says) You have translated it very nicely with the help of the Krishna book. It is your austerity, your meditation and by your meditation, you are helping the masses to understand this. Prabhupada has given us everything ready. But now we have to make the small doses for the public. They are not able to read the whole volume or whatever. They might not go through the whole prayers also. They might not have the time. Laziness is there, carelessness is there and so many things are there. So please try to follow this path. And then we have translations everywhere. These 10th Canto verses and 11th Canto verses, they are very nicely translated everywhere throughout the purports of Bhagavatam. So in the purports also you can find out. Or in Caitanya Caritamrta purports also the Bhagavatam is very nicely translated.  Particularly these 4 seed verses, they are excellently described in the pages of Caitanya Caritamrta.  So this should be our quest. Search is already there. Prabhupada has searched out. But we have to research it from his writing. That is how we have to behave. Otherwise we will be wasting our time and we will not gain anything by our stay in the temple and outside people will not be benefitted by us. As it is they are misdirected. They think something under the name of devotional service and a great show is going on. This show has got to be stopped with the Prabhupada’s writings. So that verse is from 10th Canto chapter...which chapter? 14th chapter you have done...10.14...Number I didn’t see. what is the number? Just bring it here. It is 10.14… (Maharaj is turning the pages of Srimad Bhagavatam) – It is 10.14…here it is...It is 10.14.6.

Devotee: It is 10.14.3 Maharaj.

Maharaj: 10.14.3.. Yes, it is 10.14.3 (Maharaj sings with great relish and devotees repeat)

jñāne prayāsam udapāsya namanta eva
jīvanti san-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām
sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir
ye prāyaśo ’jita jito ’py asi tais tri-lokyām

Very easy verse and very instructive. jñāne prayāsam udapāsya namanta eva(devotees repeat with Maharaj) Do you require this ? Does someone require this light?

Devotee:  Yes Maharaj.

Maharaj. Oh!

(Devotees repeat the verse again with Maharaj)

jñāne prayāsam udapāsya namanta eva
jīvanti san-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām
sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir
ye prāyaśo ’jita jito ’py asi tais tri-lokyām

This verse is written, nicely translated by Prabhupada elsewhere. Elsewhere very clear translation is there. And our Tejasvi Prabhu, I have told him that from this chapter, 14th chapter of 10th canto – In 10 canto there are all 90 chapters. So out of 90 chapters, Prabhupada has translated only 13 chapters. From 14th chapter, the Krishna book is there. So in Krishna book, the topics the translations of the verses are given. And very nicely, kindly, Tejasvi has created the 14th chapter – because it is Brahma’s prayers – Brahma prays after ...you know that lila – Brahma vimohana lila it is known as. He had taken all the cows and cowherd boys and he wanted to know that whether this boy is really Krishna or not. So one day he just stole all of them and locked them in a cave. And to his surprise, everything was going on as usual. Krishna again had expanded Himself. After this incident, He prays to Krishna. He comes down and He knows that He (Krishna) is the Supreme Absolute Truth. So in these prayers, this verse is a very practical verse.  (Devotees repeat the verse with Maharaj)

jñāne prayāsam udapāsya namanta eva
jīvanti san-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām
sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir
ye prāyaśo ’jita jito ’py asi tais tri-lokyām

sthāne sthitāḥ is very practical instruction in whole of Bhagavatam. Whole Bhagavatam is very practical. It touches our practical life. sthāne sthitāḥ means, “be situated in your own prescribed situation.” Nobody has to leave. But those who leave, they are the luckiest persons, like us. We have left to some extent. And to that extent we are lucky. We are not having any pangs really. We are in the material world. But we are not experiencing any pangs. You see the people going to doing work for 3000, 4000 per month. May be that is a very good salary, they regard - How much effort they have to put for that? They are paying the money at home. And they don’t see the money. By the time they come, the money vanishes in the higher prices of the commodities. Please, we are not suffering anything. We are so happy in the middle of the ocean of this Kali yuga. Why we are happy? Because we have left to certain extent at least. Body is there. So we cannot be really completely detached. But we are trying more percentage of detachment. And that is why the responsibility on our shoulders is very great. Please don’t take it easy – this life. And that’s why I was very upset with the people who take advantage of this. So that’s why, they may feel in the beginning. But we have to be very particular about it. And those masses who are attracted to us, they should also, should stand 100%, otherwise we don’t want less percentage. This is the thing. We should prove ourselves to be 100%. And this is the way to prove. We should try to discern things from Prabhupada’s writings. Otherwise all our efforts will be useless. There may be temples, there may be schools or this or that. But without this it would be lifeless. Life is ‘this’. Try to understand this verse. And the same way continue our legacy in this direction.

We are not attracted to raganuga bhakti. We are NOT. Prabhupada has given thousands of purports and millions of lectures. Nowhere he has given raganuga bhakti. So that is our parampara. We are not interested in dancing or this or that. Showy fervor will not continue. Ecstasy is best. But ecstasy has its own austerity behind it. Unless we are very austere, we cannot be ecstatic and we can’t afford. And people are bound to repeat you. So in public, Prabhupada never showed anything. No sign of ecstacy. This is very practical thing Prabhupada has given to the world. If Prabhupada would have done that, then whole ISKCON would have been completely misdirected. That’s why in no purport, he even mention Radharani too much. And here we have some societies wherein only Radharani is mentioned. Please...this is all misdirections in mass scale. We have to understand these things and come to the practical instructions from the Bhagavatam. And this verse, please try to understand. I am sorry this light is troubling us. Shall we bring this light some-where here?

I will translate, translation, the original translation I will give you. Tejasvi, Prabhupada has translated this verse and your translation is more explanatory from Krishna book. So please if you can continue with 15th chapter, we will be obliged. 14th chapter – you have done.

Tejasvi prabhu: Yes Maharaj.

Maharaj: Continue 15, at your leisure. Don’t keep burden on you. But you have done a good job. I will show you, how you have explained it very nicely with the help of Srila Prabhupada and this is our research. See here. This translation is very clear. Repeat please.

Lord Brahma said, “O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme and engages himself in hearing….” See this is practical instruction. We are all trying to merge into the body of Krishna. That is not possible. Otherwise, being limited in our perception, we regard it as truth that, ‘I am going to merge.’ This our Nirmal, our Nirmal does very nice seva. But he also had written in Granthraj that we are merging. This is the misdirection in the society. And it is very easy to understand. It is all empty, we cannot see Krishna. So as soon as we die, our soul mixes with the emptiness. And that’s why we think that we are merging into it. But we don’t merge. That’s the thing. So please remember this.

See here…Lord Brahma said, “O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme and engages himself in hearing, Your glories and activities from a bona fide sadhu, or saint, and who lives an honest life in the occupational engagement of his social life, can conquer Your sympathy and mercy even though You are ajita, or unconquerable." (translation of verse SB 10.14.3 from the purport of SB 2.9.18)

It is very clear. Prabhupada’s peculiarity is that he is very clear in his translations and he gives everything there. See here please. First thing is that we have to come out of this experience of the empirical philosophical speculations. We speculate that empty thing is there. There is nothing like that. And that is empirical philosophical speculation. And we know that the empty thing is His expansion. The space is expansion of the sound of Krishna. We know that. So we are beyond the level of practical experience regarding this. By the higher instructions, we have realized that there is one supreme controller and from whom everything emanates. That is the first instruction from Bhagavad-Gita.  mattaha sarvam pravartate – “Everything emanates from Me.” Please remember this. He first clears this point.

(Devotees again repeat the translation with Maharaj). “O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons…

Maharaj: Abandons means, one who completely leaves, “leaves the path of empiric philosophical speculation aimed at” – What is the speculation? We are aiming at merging in the existence of the Supreme. Have you got it?

Tejasvi Prabhuji : This is not… I have trouble finding it here. It is somewhere else. It is your writing.

Maharaj: Yes. It is somewhere else…No....I will give you. It is in 2.9.18. 18 I think purport, 10 or 18, I am not very clear. It is in 9th chapter purport though. And this translation I liked it very much, because he makes it very clear and you have cleared it more – by Krishna book. I will show you how. This is how this search helps us. You are searching out and we are researching it again with your help. And this is how, the thing which you write, we make use of it. We will make Gujarati copies of these also and we print the prayers separately so that we get the comparative study. So those who are interested, they can get so much benefit only from one prayer of Brahma.

See, please understand... ”O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation”….and again ‘speculation’ Prabhupada has not left it like that…”speculation aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme”…This is speculation. As I told you, it is very easy to get misguided. Our soul we don’t see. So we think that soul is nothing and I die and mix with this. So merging is very easy to understand. But the fact is completely different. This is jnaane prayaasam udapaasya namanta eva – He (Brahma) says, “You please stop this foolishness and namante, become humble. Humility is required. Humility is very much required. Those who are following us, should be completely humble on the ground. That is the first qualification. Humility must be there. Otherwise with pride attitude, you cannot go an inch ahead. Please remember. Humility must be there. Please, namanta eva here is important word in this. Otherwise you have speculation. The pride always forces you to speculate. The speculation is completely wrong. Why, why you are unnecessarily wasting time in things which are not helping you go ahead an inch in the path of liberating yourself from the vicious cycle of birth, death, disease and old-age?

Please repeat again - ”O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme and then”…He has to abandon this path, “and then he engages” ….engages is important word here. “engages himself in hearing, Your glories and activities from a bona fide sadhu, or saint”…Now may be it is difficult to find  a bona fide sadhu or saint. But Prabhupada is the most bona fide sadhu. So you just read from him, from Krishna book or wherever and hear. You read from Bhagavatam and hear. So don’t get stuck that there is no bona fide sadhu here and we are unable to hear. We are really expert in finding some reason to escape. (laughter)…

(At 31.15… Maharaj speaking in Gujarati with a devotee and laughs) ….“and engages himself in hearing, Your glories and activities from a bona fide sadhu, or saint, and who lives”…..This is very important. Not only hearing…Otherwise we just start hearing and we think that, ‘I am best devotee’...No. Again Prabhupada is very clear. See here. He says.… “engages himself in hearing, Your glories and activities from a bona fide sadhu, or saint, and who lives an honest life” …Honest life - and again he is clear… “in the occupational engagement of his social life”. This is our test. We have to be always engaging, very honestly in the occupational, social status. Somebody may have shops, somebody may be working, somebody may be doing farming or somebody may be in the corporate section or whatever. Whatever your situation is, you have to have an honest life. Even butchers are also honest. And this way, butchers are also liberated because of honesty, that is being explained... “honest life, can conquer Your sympathy and mercy even though You are ajita, or unconquerable.” (Maharaj speaks in Gujarati 33rd min..) We are looking at the different translations. The thing is this verse describes the whole thing. This translation you should learn by-heart. One translation gives you the whole Bhagavatam.

Please try to see this 2.9.18 purport in the Bhagavatam.  2.9.18. And always please try to refer, try to have your diaries and write all, write everything. Sometime I didn’t have any diary with me. So this is my phonebook. So I wrote in that and it always reminds me. Instead of looking into the phone numbers I read these. Please ...phone numbers I don’t get. (Checking with devotees) Have you? Is it correct? Am I correct? (2.9.18)

Tejasvi Prabhuji: Yes. (Reading the translation from the purport of 2.9.18) Lord Brahma said, "O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme and engages himself in hearing Your glories and activities from a bona fide sadhu, or saint, and who lives an honest life in the occupational engagement of his social life, can conquer Your sympathy and mercy even though You are ajita, or unconquerable.”

Maharaj: And this, I had written this, this verse in 1970.  (laughs) So how much I might be doing? It’s not my praise. But since beginning I was trying to find out something practical. Otherwise the people were not interested. Myself I was not interested. I had to come straight from grhastha ashram. I did not know about these things at all. I had bit of devotion here and there from Bhagavad-Gita.  Bhagavatam, I never touched. Nobody insisted in our community that we should read Bhagavatam. Bhagavatam we thought, it is only for hearing. That’s it. So many sadhus came. We were dancing, he was dancing…Come on, dance. That’s it. Finished. Please try to search out. This is very important. And in this translation, all practical points he has touched. I think within one sentence. It is all one sentence. One or two sentence. That’s it.

See the sentence. How long it is! “O my Lord, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme and engages himself” ……see the sentence doesn’t end. It is just continuing…engaging…I am sorry… “and engages himself in hearing Your glories and activities from a bona fide sadhu, or saint”, and as I told you again…don’t get stuck in here. I was stuck – “From where will the bona fide sadhu come?” So eventually my heart suggested that, you are already with the bona fide sadhu. This is how please, if you are sincere, your heart will suggest. But you have to be bit purer than the masses. If your mind is attracted to sex life, you cannot study these. That’s why brahmachari has got to be celibate. And today’s brahmacharis, horrible things are there. Yesterday, two girls had come here. After them, two boys came. They were loitering here and then the girls went to see the school. So they couldn’t understand where the girls are. The bicycles were there. The bicycles were lying in our compound. And those boys were restless. They were asking like mad. “Is ISKCON temple only this much, isn’t it?” They didn’t understand where the girls vanished.  Then they went out and waited outside. This is our brahmacharis. What can they learn? They can’t learn anything. And that’s why the regulations are must. Regulations for strict austerity is a must.

Please try to see. Open your eyes. Keep your eyes open and see how much misguidance is going on. You will realize. And then, our capacity may be limited. But because we are with Krishna, we are always unlimited. So don’t think that your capacity is limited. But try to prepare yourself. That is my point. Preparing means sitting. SAT – I always tell you. SAT means Supreme Absolute Truth. Our biggest acharya sat. So we should also sit. And this parampara is to continue. Otherwise, so much drama is going on. Please don’t fall victimized to these unnecessary points. You are wasting your human existence. Only one translation gives so much knowledge. How much Prabhupada has written. (39:37 – Maharaj speaks in Gujarati) From his whole writing how much we can get? Why should we leave? And we are near the coast of the ocean. Why are you waiting to take a bath? Just take a dip into it. It is very clear you know?  “Lord Brahma said”, And I am really happy that I have written everything here. I have written from where the translation I have taken. (laughs) It is really nice of me. Isn’t it? You should garland me today? (laughter) I mean to say, this is to be done. I am not praising myself. But whatever I have done for my satisfaction, will be useful to anybody. That’s what I wanted to find out always.

I didn’t get from anybody. These sannyasis like a flash, they will come and go. No time to talk to him. So how to discuss about these matters. And if I stood there, then he will say, “huh…Mahavishnu Goswami, alright. I will see you later. Go.” (laughter). They were recognizing me. But they won’t talk. Man, I was completely at loss. When I left home because of Prabhupada’s writing, I joined the temple and inside it was a whole void. Completely empty. Really if there had been any other person in my place, he would have gone back to the family life. My family life was not that bad. I was very happy there. All unhappiness started when I joined here. (laughter) Please... and then I wanted to find out as to how to stick to this process? That was the main problem with me. And eventually I found out that there is nothing wrong with the writings and instructions of Prabhupada. But the only point is in different fervors, we are not touching the main point. That’s why I stuck to these. Eventually, so much test was there. But even then somehow or the other Krishna provided me a flat in London and I had my own library. I was cooking myself and that atmosphere was best. (Referring to one devotee Maharaj said), You were not there and I didn’t have to worry about the temple construction or anything and your gimmicks again. (laughs) Again, after that confinement, Krishna again put me in trouble. (laughs) I wanted to have peaceful life in Dwarka. But again our drama started. Please don’t worry about it.

Lord Brahma said, "O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation” …. again he doesn’t leave this point. He is clearing it. “aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme”…As soon as you have some mystic power, empiric speculation, philosophical speculation you have, it is very easy to know that it is all empty, when we die, we merge into it. It is very logical you know. But please, it is not a fact. This space is a result of the sound and that’s why the third canto of Srimad Bhagavatam should be mastered always – read re-read re-read re-read – till you understand everything. We don’t have life, we don’t have time. Time is insufficient for the study of Srimad Bhagavatam. At least take this example. That anything you read, if that point is very useful, then write it from where you are taking and what is what, so that it will help us always. I didn’t see...when I was looking at this, I didn’t see that it was in 2.9.18 purport. And this way Prabhupada has translated already. This translation is the best.

Lord Brahma said, "O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme and engages himself in hearing Your glories and activities from a bona fide sadhu, or saint, and who lives” ….and again he doesn’t leave us. Prabhupada doesn’t leave us. Again he has put the condition and that condition is coming from Bhagavatam .. “and who lives”– sthaane sthitaah you know? They have to be situated in their own situations. We are really…..This austere life is not so easy to follow. We have to do this, this, this and plus this…that’s how... “and who lives an honest life” ….and not only honest life… “in the occupational engagement of his social life,” …So you are not allowed to run from the social life. Very easy to run. For example, he has the son. He has to maintain the flat, wife and fight whatever. And so he runs away. But Bhagavatam does not insist on running away. This is the practical point. “Run away” is not the way. But to be there and do everything is the way. How to do it, that is described here. “and who lives an honest life in the occupational engagement of his social life” ...Then this is whole subject you know. Please study this sentence. It is just one sentence. The whole thing is a subject. Read this subject again.

"O my Lord Krishna, a devotee who abandons the path of empiric philosophical speculation aimed at merging in the existence of the Supreme and engages himself in hearing Your glories and activities from a bona fide sadhu, or saint, and who lives an honest life in the occupational engagement of his social life,”

….the whole 3 things are given here and they are all subject. And then the verb comes now…” can”. This man can.

  1. who abandons …boom..boom..boom.
  2. and again engages …boom..boom..boom.
  3. and lives boom…boom..boom.

So this three words are there.

  1. who abandons – what is to be abandoned?
  2. then who engages – what is to be engaged? and
  3. then who lives – what is that life?

These three things are given. Three phrases are the subject.

“can conquer Your sympathy and mercy”. here it ends. But again there is a phrase to complete the predicate. “Can” is the verb here. This is only one sentence. “can conquer Your sympathy and mercy even though You are ajita, or unconquerable.” Very nice translation. You should find out the equivalents from this and try to do whatever labor you want to do. And then, this our Tejasvi has done very nice job. Please this is the way you have to meditate on this. Please record the time and understanding and Krishna is always situated in everybody’s heart. You are self-sufficient and you have unlimited capacity, because Krishna is unlimited. You have unlimited capacity to learn, imbibe till you are alive. And this will give you a nice old-age. Otherwise in old-age, you will be making different noises… (haen…haen… haen…haen.) Instead of that, please utilize this and if you utilize this, then there is no haen…haen. So you are not suffering…In old age also, you are not suffering. This is the way to conquer everything when we are already old. Please read this. Read it. Please repeat. This verse is 10.14.3:

jñāne prayāsam udapāsya namanta eva
jīvanti san-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām
sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir
ye prāyaśo ’jita jito ’py asi tais tri-lokyām

Please, please try to remember the verse and repeat the translation. This is very nicely described in the pages of Krishna book. From this, he (Tejasvi Prabhu) has tried to take the explanation from the Krishna book and again the same thing is very nicely described. (Reading out what Tejasvi Prabhuji has written from Krishna book) “The best process for understanding You is to submissively give up the speculative process.” See how nice it is? Same thing. But differently he has explained. And this gives us realization. (Prabhupada) He has translated it and in Krishna book he has realized it. So we have got his realization also and his translation also, and the original verse also, and the speaker of the verse also and to whom he speaks. Everything is here. This is our research. Brahma says ...Brahma is more, much intelligent than us. We cannot create anything. Brahma has created the whole thing. He is our great, great, great grandfather. So we should hear him. And he says to Krishna Himself. So he should be intelligent enough to recognize Krishna. All these things come out of these things. And this is the realization. And till the time you feel these things, till that time you are with Krishna. Otherwise you are with the girl. You are with wife, would-be wife. If you don’t have your wife or would-be wife, then you will be with some girl.hee..hee..hee…Our eyeballs keep moving. As soon as you see a girl or any lady, every lady you want to marry. (laughs) Man..you are not Krishna. (laughter) This is our rascaldom. And we are wasting our time. Just to have a glance of the girl, we die. We hang upside down. Just to have the smile from her. And nothing she does ‘hmmm’ like this and then he thinks, “she likes me.” Nothing. She doesn’t like anybody. (laughs) Anyway don’t talk about it.

(Continuing to read from Krishna book the equivalent translation for 10.14.3)

The best process of understanding You is to submissively give up the speculative process and try to know about You either from Yourself as you have given in the statements in the Bhagavad-Gita and many similar Vedic scriptures or from a realized devotee who has taken shelter at Your lotus feet. One has to hear from a devotee without speculation. One does not even need to change his worldly positions.”

It is very clear here. See. Very clear. This is beauty. (Referring to Tejasvi Prabhuji) Anything you take from Prabhupada. See how nice seva you have done! You are acharya. You have explained it well here. This is the best. Once you do this and once you realize this, you will be standing completely a special devotee in the mass of the crowd. Because you know that this is the knowledge and this is the austerity. Because you didn’t spend your time, because you didn’t waste your time, you have found out the correct thing. See, how clear it is. This translation, gives you the fact. And how to realize it, how to put into practice is from Krishna book. Please try to compare these. Try to continue, try to seriously continue to research these things. Please start 15th chapter. Do it slowly whatever you can. Don’t be in a hurry. But try to do it very nicely, whatever you can. Oh very nice you know!

“The best process of understanding You is to submissively give up the speculative process and try to hear about You either from Yourself…”….see Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatam etc – everything is give here. But we are so rascals…We don’t have a bona fide sadhu…we cannot hear..and sleep.” (laughs) Man, feel like beating man. We should have whips. Go into the shops and beat to death (laughter) Your shop we are coming first. Beat him. ..“either from Yourself as you have given in the statements in the Bhagavad-Gita and many similar Vedic scriptures or from a realized devotee who has taken shelter at Your lotus feet. One has to hear from a devotee without speculation. One does not even need to change his worldly positions.” How clear it is! “He simply has to hear the message although they are not understandable by the material senses. Simply by hearing about you, one can gradually conquer, the nescience of misunderstanding. By Your own grace only, you have become revealed to Your devotee.” How we can conquer Him? “By Your own grace only, you become revealed to the devotee. You are unconquerable, by any other means. Speculative knowledge without any taste of devotional service is simply useless waste,” not waste only, “useless waste of time in the search for You.” See how he has …. Only one thing he could not do. He could not take his heart and put out in front of us. That’s all. Otherwise he has given everything. That is the specialty of Srila Prabhupada. These ritviks, they should do these things and unfold Prabhupada. But this requires austerity and penance. Simply blaming ISKCON is very easy. “Back to Prabhupada” or something they print and all non-sense is printed in it. Somebody asked this question – this Krishnakant – I know him. He is rascal number one. In the sense, that he didn’t attend mangala-arati, (even a) single mangala arati. Those who don’t attend mangala arati, they can never be trusted. They can never be trusted. Those who attend mangala aratis they can only be trusted, to some extent again. Only attending mangala arati will not do. Dog also attend always because it is here. No. Merely coming here is not enough. But even then coming here has some bit of advantage. But coming and understanding these things is very much important. How clear it is? Please remember these things. We stop here with this verse. There is some verse to be given for references. We will talk in the class today. We will stop here. Jai Srila Prabhupada ki Jai!

HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj ki Jai!!
