Bhagavad Gita is non-different from Krishna: We have to be very clear in our mind that Bhagavad Gita is a ocean of knowledge. Even one shloka if we discuss, it is perfection of human existence, because this is spoken by the Lord Himself. It is non-different from the Lord. We and our speech are different. But Lord and His speech are non-different, because it is very nicely described in the Isopanishad. In the invocation mantra, Vyasa Bhagavan clearly defines how the Lord is purna.

om purnam adah purnam idam / purnaat purnam udacyate
purnasya purnam aadaaya / purnam evaavashishyate

"The Personality of Godhead is perfect and complete, and because He is completely perfect, all emanations from Him, such as this phenomenal world, are perfectly equipped as complete wholes. Whatever is produced of the Complete Whole is also complete in itself. Because He is the Complete Whole, even though so many complete units emanate from Him, He remains the complete balance."

All our Vedic mantras and shlokas begin from 'om' and in the shlokas also there are so many 'om's in-built in the shloka and when we think about 'Om' we should know that it is naadha brahma - the sound representation of the Lord. And the sound representation of the Lord is non-different from Him, because He is completely perfect.  'om purnam adah purnam idam' - purnam means complete. Everything is completely perfect. And from the complete whole, so many complete units come out. For example, the earth planet is one complete unit. Here for our life we want water, we want food. Everything is available here. We don't want to go to the moon to get water. This is complete. This unit is complete in itself. And even then there are so many complete units out of the Complete Whole and even then the balance is complete. In spiritual realm, 1 plus 1 is also 1. 1 minus 1 is also 1. How many complete units are coming from Him! Millions and millions of planets are moving around. Even then the balance is complete. This is the nature of Krishna.  And because He is completely perfect, He and His speech are non-different. As it is, we are not able to associate with Krishna. As it is, with our imperfect senses, we cannot see Him. But we can very well experience Him. If we want to associate with Krishna, then this is the way to be with Him. You just try to chant few verses from Bhagavad Gita, then you are directly associating with Krishna. In India, even now there are millions and millions of families, who chant at least 2 chapters of Bhagavad Gita daily. 12th Chapter is Bhakti yoga and 15th is Krishna Himself. 12th Chapter gives a nice idea about what Krishna says about bhakti yoga and then He describes about Himself in 15th Chapter and these two chapters are very important. No doubt all 700 verses in Gita are important. And this is how once we understand that this is the association of Krishna, then lovingly we come to Him.

3. Follow the saints and be free from sinful life: In the pages of Bhagavad Gita it is very nicely described verse 3.16,

evam pravartitam cakram / naanu vartayatiha yah
aghaayur indriyaaraamo /mogham paartha sa jivati

"My dear Arjuna, one who does not follow in human life the cycle of sacrifice thus established by the Vedas certainly leads a life full of sin. Living only for the satisfaction of the senses, such a person lives in vain."

evam pravartitam cakram - This is the path chalked out by saints, sages and gurus etc and naanu vartayatiha yah - those who don't follow this in this life, what happens to those people? aghaayur - aayur means life and agha means grave sins. Their life is full of sins. Today we are here assembled ourselves in the temple. But soon if you don't do these things, then your life will be sinful. If you don't come here, then you might be watching TV or you might be wasting your time or visiting pubs etc. Because you are not attracted to this side, your life becomes full of sins and then indriyaaramo - you run after the sense gratificatory activities. And then mogham paartha sa jivati. You completely uselessly, waste your life. This is the main thing to be understood from the pages of Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.

4. Give up bodily identification: With this we will go to verse 5.20 from Bhagavad Gita.

na prahrshyet priyam praapya / nodvijet praapya caapriyam
sthira-buddhir asammudho / brahma-vid brahmani sthitah

"A person who neither rejoices upon achieving something pleasant nor laments upon obtaining something unpleasant, who is self-intelligent, who is unbewildered, and who knows the science of God, is already situated in transcendence."

It is nicely pointed out by Srila Prabhupada in the purport that, "Identification with the body, stops us from performing devotional service with loving heart." Now we had some 2 to 3 families here. It was difficult for us to take Mahamantra out of their mouth. This is identification of our body. We are very lucky that at least we are out of that conditioning, that we can at least lovingly raise our hands and chant Mahamantra loudly. This is also some achievement in our existence. This identification really creates so many problems in our life and these problems are continuously same. We have our modes of material nature and we have our one basic mode, either we are in mode of ignorance, passion or goodness. And since childhood we face the same difficulties. Throughout our life we face the same difficulties. The nature of the problems may differ. But the kind of the problem are the same. If you inspect your own life, you might have experienced the same difficulties and this is because of the identification of the material body. As soon as you cross over this limit of bodily identification, then you are out of the modes of material nature. Then the difficulties may appear before you, but they don't have any stinging effect on your life and this is the main thing you have to understand here

5. Take shelter of Srila Prabhupada and not your mind: And one thing we fail to understand and realise is that our mind, because of the identification of the body, it is doubtful how that by seeing the Lord, we can progress? How by remembering Him we can progress, how by touching the paraphernalia of the Lord or His lotus feet, how we could progress? This is a great doubt in our mind and because of this great doubt, we may come here to the temple sometime or even stay here in the temple, but because of these doubts we are unknowingly and helplessly dragged back into material rut. Instead of taking up this process, and following the process seriously we are prone to be victimised by so many unknown attractions in this material world. They may appear, to be religious attraction. But they are not religious attraction. They are just flavour of maya. Because Maya always covers herself in the form of religiosity also.

Once we have been to Australia and there was a person there who had 4 children by first marriage. And then again he wanted to separate the wife and marry. But somehow he wanted to earn money. So his mind suggested to him that, "People sell these drugs. If you also do 2 rounds of these sales, then you can take care of your family and also do nice pooja." So he thought, "I will just do two rounds and then stop." So he went to India, Nepal and bought the drugs and went to Germany and sold it. So in two rounds, he could get good amount. So the mind was very tricky to him. Mind suggested him, "Again do few more rounds, then you can earn lot of money. Then we can buy a steamer and then we will have floating temple and do nice devotional service." So this was the trick of the mind. Mind knew what argument will be alright for him. So he thought, "Well, I will have floating temple and be the temple president and do lots of service!"  He did few more rounds and then he started doing it again and again. Once it so happened that he was in India, you know money, easy come, easy go. So money was spent nearly, very little amount was left. So he wanted to get a cheap ticket. So he got a ticket in Aero-float, Russian airline and they had to change the plane in Moscow. He thought, "What is wrong? My mrdanga and harmonium are full of drugs. Nobody will know." So he went to Moscow. But to his surprise, he was caught there in the customs. He was caught and arrested there. He was punished and sentenced for 6 years in labour camp in Siberia. So he was in great trouble.

The point is mind will always give you some material instruction in the guise of religious instruction. And this is how we may be in illusion that, "I am following religious path". But you are not following religious path. As soon as you leave the shelter of Srila Prabhupada, you are completely open to all this trouble. It is only Srila Prabhupada who gives us direct and simple instruction about religious and organised life. As soon as you leave his books, his instructions or the institution also, if you don't follow him very sincerely, then you are victimised by so many unknown forces outside. This is a great danger we are facing. Our movement is so large and now if we don't stick to the instructions of Srila Prabhupada very clearly for our own good, then we are completely lost.

6. Effects of darshan, dhyaan and samsparsha: If we don't stick to the instructions of Srila Prabhupada and the explanations given by him very clearly, for our own good, then we are completely lost. When we don't do this then, if we don't see any tangible result, we may stay in the temple for more than 10 years, but eventually we think, 'oh this is not for us'. We don't know that only by coming to the temple we are elevated, by staying in the temple we are elevated, we don't have any idea. There is a nice verse which Srila Prabhupada quotes how by darshan only we can be elevated or by remembering the Lord, we are very elevated.

darshana dhyaana samsparshair / matsya kurma vihangamaah
svaany apatyaani pushnanti / tathaaham api padma ja

"By vision, by meditation and by touch only do the fish, the tortoise and the birds maintain their offspring. Similarly do I also, O Padmaja!"

Beautiful two lines ! He says in the first line-darshana dhyaana samsparshair / matsya kurma vihangamaahdarshan means by just seeing, dhyaan means by meditating, samsparshair means touching, matsya kurma vihangamaah - fish, tortoise and the birds, svaany apatyaani pushnanti - they hatch their eggs and get their young ones out of their eggs. The same way, "I will help you Brahma!" Krishna says this verse.darshan - just by seeing, fish lays the eggs and then she just see the eggs from far and the eggs are hatched and she gets the young fish in time, just by darshan. If this is happening in the material world, then it is much more finer and much more serious in the spiritual realm. This is material thing. The fish only sees the eggs and the young ones come out in time. By seeing they are hatched. In the same way, if you continuously see the Lord, you acquire the qualities of the Lord. These families, they come here, just see and then leave. But doesn't matter. As soon as they come to see, their life is completely affected by it. They may not have time to sit, but at least the piety is there to come to the temple. That is how only by seeing the Lord, we are helped. And then He says, meditation - dhyaan - kurma - tortoise lays the eggs on the land and goes to the water. And she only meditates on the eggs. Only by meditating on the eggs, she gets the young ones. The eggs are hatched. And samsparshair - touch, the birds sit on the eggs. And in time, they get the young ones. This is how, fish, tortoise and birds get their young ones by 3 ways. One by seeing, other one by meditating and third one by touching. This is material thing. It is much more true in the spiritual matters also. So by seeing the Lord, meditating about Him and touching His parahernalia, we can get the same benefit

Each time you touch the Bhagavad Gita, you are completely purified. Forget about reading. There is famous story of the blind man and Caitanya Mahaprabhu was passing over and He saw the blind man having the Bhagavad Gita open and crying. So Mahaprabhu went near him and asked, "Why are you crying?" He said, "How nice is my Lord!" Mahaprabhu said, "But you don't see. How do you know?" The blind man replied, "I can feel Him." This is the correct understanding.

7. Bhagavatam is the best medicine for all diseases: There was one man in London and I remember very clearly how we have been to his house and he was in trouble as he was suffering from diabetes and it is a funny thing how he got diabetes. He had married two three times and all the wives left him and they sued him for maintenance. Now this one was working somewhere and he was getting 100 pounds. So after deducting all the maintenances, he had to pay 25 pounds to the factory where he was working. So he thought, "What is the use of working? Because after working also, the salary goes away and I have to give 25 pounds to the factory." So he left the job. And then he started getting the social security money. Then he knew that if he is suffering from diabetes, he can get good money, much more increased allowance. So he went to the doctor and said, "Doctor, I am suffering from diabetes." So his family doctor checked everything and said, "No. You are OK. You are not suffering from diabetes." He said, "No, doctor. I am suffering from diabetes." (laughter) Because he wanted to get the certificate somehow or the other to get the social security. The doctor denied. But he kept insisting, "No,no, doctor. I am suffering from diabetes." So doctor got fed up and said, "Alright. You are suffering." Then he said, "Give me medicines." So the doctor gave certificate and the medicines.

This man went to the social security with certificate and he was getting good money. So money was coming and he had to take the medicines to show the social security that he was really suffering from diabetes and that he is taking the medicines. So this was going on for 6 months and his cup-board was full of medicines. It so happened that he simply started taking those tablets and one day really he was suffering from diabetes, due to the forced medicines. And he was in dire trouble. Everyday he had to take injection, immediately prepare his food and eat and again he had to take injection, prepare food, eat. Trouble, great trouble. Then we gave him one volume Srimad Bhagavatam and told him, "You please read this Srimad Bhagavatam and this is the best medicine for you." And then after three months we visited him again and then he was really much better than what he was earlier. So this is the effect of these scriptures, but we don't have faith. As soon as we have faith in the words of Srila Prabhupada and Krishna, then nothing else will stop you

8. Way to develop spontaneous love for Krishna: Somehow or the other we have to organise something wherein we can develop the real love for Krishna. These few people who came here, they could have waited for half an hour or so. They may be staying very far or they may be going for work tomorrow, so they might have left. But we should have a spontaneous love for Krishna conscious activities. Otherwise it becomes very difficult. And there is a beautiful verse sung by gopis in 10th Canto and that is gopi-bhaavGopi-bhaav does not mean that we go to Vrindavan, put on the sarees and hug the trees. No. Nothing like that. But Gopi bhaav means we have to develop the unflinching faith in the Lord and continuously we have to do devotional service. That is the meaning of this verse. Beautiful verse. (SB 10.31.15)

atati yad bhavaan ahni kaananam
truti yugaayate tvaam apashyataam
kutila-kuntalam shri-mukham ca te
jada udikshitaam pakshma-krd drshaam

"When You go off to the forest during the day, a tiny fraction of a second becomes like a millennium for us because we cannot see You. And even when we can eagerly look upon Your beautiful face, so lovely with its adornment of curly locks, our pleasure is hindered by our eyelids, which were fashioned by the foolish creator."

Beautiful verse. Gopi say to Krishna, 'atati yad bhavaan ahni kaananam'atati means 'You wander'. 'As soon as the day dawns, You wander with the cows. You go to graze the cows during the day and so we cannot see You. So when we cannot see what is our condition? truti yugaayate tvaam apashyataam.' truti means fraction of a second. Srila Prabhupada translates it that if you divide a second into 1700 parts, then one part is truti. Very small fraction of a second. 'We think truti is long like a millenium - yugaayate. Why? tvaam apashyataam - Because we cannot see You.' Many times if we like somebody, then without him/her we cannot pass the time and even a day looks long. So this is how gopis say. And then they say, 'kutila-kuntalam shri-mukham ca te' - 'In the evening, when You come back, You have nice kutila kuntalam, nice curly black hair. And all that black hair is covered by the dust coming from the hoofs of the cows and Your face is also dirty. But it appears very nice. We want to see it continuously.' Then they curse Brahma who has made this body. 'Because Brahma has created these eyelids for our eyes and because of eyelids, we have to blink our eyes and during that time, we don't see You.' So this is what gopi-bhaav means.

If you want to develop gopi-bhaav, then 24 hrs a day, all the time, you have to get engrossed in the scriptures and the temple activities and then only there will be spontaneous love. Otherwise, most of our existence, may be 99.5% of our material existence is dragged into material activities. Then may be 1% we may come to Krishna hesitatingly and again we come to material life and this happens because we identify ourselves with the bodies, families, countries etc and that is the result, we loose our human existence. Don't know really, when will we get this human existence again. So better to utilise it now. Hare Krishna ! All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada ki Jai !
