Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!
This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "Do not Neglect" wherein we are discussing on the consequences of neglecting Krishna and His pure devotees, as detailed in the pastime of Jaya and Vijaya being cursed by the Sanat kumaras in 3rd Canto 16th Chapter of Srimad Bhagavatam. In the previous offerings we saw that if we ignore Krishna or His pure devotees, three things happens to us. First result is that we offend others when we fail to see Krishna in them. Now we shall see the next point.
2. Suffering the reactions of the offence is inevitable even in Vaikuntha: Lord Krishna did not interfere in the curse given by Sanat kumaras to Jaya and Vijaya and in fact He agrees for the proposal and confirms it to them. In verse 3.16.3 of Srimad Bhagavatam He says,
yas tv etayor dhṛto daṇḍo / bhavadbhir mām anuvrataiḥ
sa evānumato ’smābhir / munayo deva-helanāt
"O great sages, I approve of the punishment that you who are devoted to Me have meted out to them."
So when the door-keepers of Vaikuntha themselves had to suffer, what to speak of people like us. For us the suffering will be in the below forms.
a) We will lose taste for devotional service: Devotional service is the mercy of Krishna. When we offend Krishna and/or His devotees, we become ineligible for that mercy, and therefore the taste for devotional service will decrease. Taste for sense gratification increases. The material mind is tricky and will start convincing us that, "Perfection in Krishna consciousness is very difficult and at least materially we can be successful." So it will make us spend less or no time for sadhana and service. It will trick us that we can do nice sadhana when we are alone and that we should renounce association of devotees.
b) We will lose tolerance to face material miseries: The moment we shun away from devotional service, mind becomes completely filled with miseries of life. Our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj says, "Suppose if it is raining very hardly and if you have a raincoat and an umbrella, and the hat etc, then water doesn't touch your body. You are in the water, you are walking in the rain, but the water does not bother you. The same way the material energy is insurmountable. In Bhagavad Gita Krishna says in verse 7.14, daivi hyeshaa gunamayi mamaayaa duratyayaa - duratyayaa means very difficult. Very difficult to face that energy. As soon as you try to face, it will grab you. That is the tendency. In temple also it grabs you. It forces you to sleep in mangala-arati and as soon as you do that, instead of getting enlivened in the body and the spiritual activities, you are dead in the temple also. That is how we have to be very careful. This devotional service is our protective clothing."
So when we are not under the protective umbrella of bhakti, we lose the sanity to face material miseries. The only way out for all these sufferings is to take shelter of Krishna and more importantly the devotee whom we offended and seek forgiveness. How will Lord reciprocate when we become repentful and seek forgiveness? Krishna willing, we shall see the answer for this question in the subsequent offering.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sajjanapriya Krishna das,
