Sudarshana devi dasi

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "Lessons from the life of Dhrtarashtra" based on glorious verses present in first canto, 13th Chapter of Srimad Bhagavatam. In the previous offering we were meditating on some of the sublime instructions given by Narada Muni to Yudhishtir Maharaj upon the departure of Dhrtarashtra to the forest. Now we shall see further. In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.13.45 Narada Muni says to Maharaj Yudhishthira

tasmaaj jahy anga vaiklavyam / ajnaana-krtam aatmanah
katham tv anaathaah krpanaa / varterams te ca maam vinaa

"Therefore give up your anxiety due to ignorance of the self. You are now thinking of how they, who are helpless poor creatures, will exist without you."

This is a very important message for us. Many times when we are involved in service, be it at home, work, society or temple - under the influence of modes, we start thinking that we are the doers. And without us that service might not continue or the people to whom we are rendering the service will become helpless in our absence. This is a great illusion. Our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj says that we should remember this truth that everything will continue as usual after our death. The shops, business etc will all continue as it was during our presence. Nothing will stop. But we falsely think that everything depends on us. One devotee shared a nice acronym which we should always remember to come out of this illusion of doer mentality and understand our dependence on Supreme Lord. The acronym is CNN - (We have no Capacity, We are Nothing and we are Not needed.) Whatever we are able to carry out in this life is also because of Lord's mercy - Without His glance we cannot even lift our hands or move out of the bed. If we are able to help some one or do some service that is also because of Lord's mercy only. We are just instruments in the hands of the Supreme Lord.

Srila Prabhupada very nicely says in the purport to the above verse, "When we think of our kith and kin as being helpless and dependent on us, it is all due to ignorance. Every living creature is allowed all protection by the order of the Supreme Lord in terms of each one's acquired position in the world. The Lord is known as bhuta-bhrt, one who gives protection to all living beings. One should discharge his duties only, for no one but the Supreme Lord can give protection to anyone else."

Krishna willing we shall continue to meditate on this topic in the subsequent offerings.

Hare Krishna
Thank you very much
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
