Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Mathajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

I was reading few of the lectures and letters written to his disciples by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada. At the end of every lecture and letter correspondence we observe Srila Prabhupada saying - "Thank you very much". Also its interesting to notice that in each and every lecture or letter, he expresses his heart-felt sincere gratitude for the service they were doing and praying to Krishna to bless them will all spiritual advancement. He was transmitting the mood of intense humility and gratitude towards the general public for the reason that they were able to hear Krishna Katha.

Our normal tendency is that when we give class or do some sort of service, we automatically feel that we have done it and deserve to be thanked by others. The amount of service that we are doing now cannot be even compared to one thousandth of what was done by His Divine Grace. In spite of spending so many sleepless nights, translating so many literatures in English, opening so many temples all over the world, establishing an International Society and owning so much opulence, responsibility etc, there is not even a tinge of pride or proprietorship in His Divine Grace. He genuinely considered that He is just an instrument in the hands of Lord and that all the wealth was Krishna's and he sincerely thanked each and every living entity who assisted him by providing an opportunity to preach.

Actually speaking are we eligible to take gratitude from His Divine Grace? It should be vice versa. The books written by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada are simple to read and easy to follow by anybody. We should be more thankful to him for giving us this literature in English. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Srila Prabhupada for reminding us of the great treasure that we have in our own culture. But we are still in the process of feeling gratitude for him.

In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 4.21.44, Prthu Maharaj very nicely instructs

gunaayanam shila-dhanam krta-jnam / vrddhaashrayam samvrnate 'nu sampadah
prasidataam brahma-kulam gavaam ca / janaardanah saanucarash ca mahyam

"Whoever acquires the brahminical qualifications--whose only wealth is good behavior, who is grateful and who takes shelter of experienced persons--gets all the opulence of the world. I therefore wish that the Supreme Personality of Godhead and His associates be pleased with the brahmana class, with the cows and with me."

In his purport to the above verse, Srila Prabhupada writes, "Gratitude for the mercy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is one of the qualities of brahmanas and Vaishnavas.Everyone should feel grateful to the Supreme Personality of Godhead because He is maintaining all living entities and supplying all their necessities." This is an open secret, known obvious truth. But unfortunately we very easily and conveniently forget it. Every day when we wake up in the morning, the very fact that we are alive is greatest mercy of the Lord.Lord is giving us nice opportunity to serve Him. He has blessed with good family, good health, and above all the gift of opportunity to chant His names and to be in touch with the greatest literatures - Srimad Bhagavat Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam - mercy manifestation of Srila Prabhupada.

I pray that I always remember this and always remain thankful and grateful to Gurudev and Srila Prabhupada and all the living entities who are helping me to remember Krishna and engaging me in His service.

Thank you very much,
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Prasanna Lakshmi devi dasi.
