Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Gurudeva.
I came across a very beautiful verse, from SB 1.2.14,
tasmaad ekena manasaa / bhagavaan saatvataam patih
shrotavyah keertitavyash ca / dhyeyah pujyash ca nityadaa
"Therefore, with one-pointed attention, one should constantly hear about, glorify, remember and worship the Personality of Godhead, who is the protector of the devotees."
Srila Prabhupada strongly alerts in the purport, "If realization of the Absolute Truth is the ultimate aim of life, it must be carried out by all means...namely glorifying, hearing, remembering and worshiping. Without these principles of life, no one can exist". He further adds on that, "In this modern society, all activities are more or less dependent on hearing and glorifying. Any man from any social status becomes a well-known man in human society within a very short time if he is simply glorified truly or falsely in the daily newspapers but the actual object of glorification is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who has created everything manifested before us".
In our daily life, we give so much attention to material activities..., Just like when we count bundle of money, we feel so blissful, for every next note coming, similarly, we have to feel the joy within us during chanting and reciting Bhagavatam, when we approach each and every bead or each and every verse which is more precious than a diamond.
Recently, H G Devakinandan Prabhu enlightened us saying that we have to be attentive in both Chanting and Bhagavatam, if our chanting improves, simultaneously our reading will improve and vice versa.. Chanting and reading goes hand in hand. Just like we cannot come close to a person, unless we know about that person, similarly, if we want to come close to Krishna, then we have to know about Him. If we have to know about Him we have to read more and more about Him. If we want to improve our reading, we have to improve our chanting and vice-versa.
We have to gear up ourselves and welcome Krishna whole-heartedly, in our Satsangs. Those who have developed a taste for understanding the transcendental subject matter are never tired of hearing such narrations. Hence, we should be so blissful to hear about Krishna that the speaker also gets more energized to deliver the hidden treasures of Lords pastimes.
Maharaja Parikshit had no more than seven days to live, but for fallen souls like me Maharaja Parikshit personally recommends that we hear Bhagavatam regularly, shrnvatah shraddhayaa nityam, always by one's own effort and with serious devotion also. That will help us to see the Lord Krishna manifested in our heart within no time.
We can have perfect rapt attention by having purity in mind, action and eating, sleeping, defending and mating. But by Krishnas mercy, if we have rapt attention for Lord Krishna then automatically all the impurities in us vanishes. If we are attentive now, then only we can successfully pass the final exam of death chanting the Lord's name.
Hence, I pray unto the lotus feet of Lord Krishna and Gurudev to give me the strength for having rapt attention always for the Lord's name and His glories.
Thank you very much,
Yours in the service of Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev,
Nayana Priya Devi Dasi
