Dear Prabhujis and Matajis,
Hare Krishna. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Gurudeva.
Hundreds of devotees had come to Rajkot on the occasion of 86th Vyasa Puja of our Guru Maharaj H H Mahavishnu Goswami on Tuesday. Two days back the devotees from Kerala who were about 40 in number started their return journey in the wee hours of the morning immediately after mangala arati. They hired 3 Chakdas (Auto rikshas with open top) to go to the railway station. Within half-hour of their departure, one of the devotees called us saying that H G Patita Pavana prabhu who is one of the members of the group got hit by a low lying branch of a tree (as he was traveling in the Chakda standing) while traveling and fell down. The back of his head got hit on the ground and he became unconscious. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and the doctors said that though there was no serious injury visible in the scan, it will take a few days for him to return from unconsciousness. The injury was internal and the danger is if there is any blood clot then he may need a surgery.
As luck would have it, the entire group's ticket was with Patita pavana prabhu and hence, though the other two chakdas reached the railway station, they could not travel in the train. So, the entire group returned back to the temple filled with the anxiety of Patita Pavana prabhu.
Maharaj gave courage to everybody and instructed all of us to do sincere chanting with prayer to the Lord for the well-being of Patita Pavana prabhu. As different devotees took their turns to stay in the hospital with Patita Pavana prabhu, constantly playing the kirtans of Prabhupada in the background, the ICU ward was converted into a mini temple hall. The doctors as well the other patients were very happy at our chanting and commented joyfully, "We enjoyed your chanting all day." When we did mangala arati early in the morning inside the room, the ward boys and the duty doctor also joined our kirtans.
During the day Maharaj gave very sober message to all of us quoting the verse,
yat bhaavyam tat bhavati eva / yat abhaavyam na tad bhavati
iti nishcit buddhinaam / cintaa na baadhate kvacit
"What has to happen, will definitely happen. What is not supposed to happen, that will never happen. For one who has fixed his intelligence in this eternal truth, anxiety will never disturb him."
He then explained this verse with reference to the context.., "You were all thinking that you will leave for Kerala today and reach your home in the next two days. But it was not to happen according to Krishna's plan. So, when Krishna has a plan, then we should not be unduly bothered about it, because it is always Krishna's plan that works. In the same way, if Krishna decides that something has to happen in a certain way, then it will only happen that way. There is no way we can change it even if we hang upside down. So, when things are not under our control, why unnecessarily worry about it? Just leave it to Krishna, bow down to Him with submission and you will be free of all anxieties."
Then he led the devotees into a very intense kirtan all evening praying for the recovery of Patita Pavana prabhu. Miraculously, by the intense chanting of the devotees and the deep prayers of our Guru Maharaj, Patita pavana prabhu is recovering well and is able to recognize the faces of devotees. He will definitely need quite some time to fully recover but the doctors said that in normal cases, it takes 15 days to recover to the current state of Patita Pavana prabhu but because of sincere prayers, he could recover well in 2 days itself.
One thing to mention though is the marvellous service rendered by all the local devotees as well as the visiting devotees from other parts of the world. They did everything to help the Kerala group in the anxious moments, cancelling the tickets, rebooking the tickets, taking them back to the temple and serving them in all possible ways, helping out with Patita Pavana prabhu's medication and treatment in the hospital and in so many other ways. This service attitude in undoubtedly due to their simple nature and their immaculate cultivation by our Guru Maharaj as well as the other sincere devotees of the Rajkot temple. The way they all work together running around in performing seva is very inspiring to watch and inculcate.
It is definitely Krishna's mercy upon us to increase our sincerity in devotional service in so many ways. As Maharaj would always say, "We should be always ready for unexpected incidents like this in our lives, because that is the nature of this material world. Our near and dear one's may die, our wealth may be stolen away, we may have some physical ailments etc. Always remembering this fact, we should prayerfully perform devotional service without any motive and without any interruption."
Thank you very much
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Gurudeva
