How to become Krishna's favourite ?

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

In this world we crave for fame and always love to be someone's favourite. We try to behave according to the likings of others. But being immersed in the material modes, we fail to understand that its not always possible to behave in a manner pleasing to others. On the contrary, if we spend this valuable life time, in becoming favourite to Lord Krishna, then that is the real success for us. We should constantly meditate, "Will Krishna be pleased by this act ?" and try to engage in such activities and refrain from activities which do not please the Lord. Our goal should be to please Krishna and become His favourite. For this we should know what qualities please Him.

Through the pages of Bhagavad Gita which is the essence of the cream of Vedas, Lord Krishna has quoted in several places as to what are the qualities which please Him. Especially in Chapter 12 (Bhakti - Yoga) and Chapter 2 verses 54 through 72, He has very nicely explained about the qualities that would be found in His pure devotees. In one of his lectures, our spiritual master, H.H. Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj was stressing the importance of these 18 verses in chapter 2. He said that rice and dhal are food for the body and they cannot satisfy the soul. To satisfy the soul, we need to provide spiritual food in the form of these shlokas. In 2.54, Arjuna inquires the Lord about the behaviour of a transcendental man and Lord replies to his question very nicely in the verses 2.55 through 72.

Our Kali yuga brain keeps forgetting good things over period of time and so it's important to hammer these truths daily in our minds, so that we not only remember these qualities, but also practise them in our day to day life. In 12.20 Lord Krishna says,

ye tu dharmāmṛtam idaṁ yathoktaṁ paryupāsate
śraddadhānā mat-paramā bhaktās te ’tīva me priyāḥ

Those who follow this imperishable path of devotional service and who completely engage themselves with faith, making Me the supreme goal, are very, very dear to Me.

I pray to our beloved Gurudev to drive in me the constant thought of following his instructions day in and day out.

Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Sri Ramachandra das

Moderator's Note: From Gurudev's lecture, we can very well understand the importance of reciting these shlokas. Some of us might think that reciting and remembering shlokas is not possible. In Chennai, there is a 2 and half year old girl called Parami who under the loving guidance of her parents (H.G. Jayashree Mathaji and H.G Krishnamoorthy Prabhu) is reciting 23 shlokas (13 from 2nd Chapter and 10 from 12th Chapter). In the weekly satsang programs, which was started just few months ago, they started reciting these verses regularly and her parents also used to recite these shlokas to her when they were dropping her to play-school. By this "śravaṇaṁ' she has learnt these shlokas. So neither age, nor education qualifications are required for recitation. All we require is a clean, submissive heart like this little child. If we approach the scriptures in this mood, then Krishna in the form of these shlokas will automatically reside in our hearts.
