Dear Prabhujis and Matajis,
Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances! All Glories to Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev!

This is in continuation of the previous posting of the lecture given by our beloved Guru Maharaj on the following verse:

aaradhyo bhagavaan vrajesha-tanayas tad-dhaama vrndaavanam
ramyaa kaachid upaasanaa vraja-vadhu-vargenaa va kalpitaa
srimad bhaagavatam pramaanam amalam premaa pum-artho mahaan
sri-caitanya mahaaprabhor matam idam tatraadaraah na parah

"The Supreme Personality Of Godhead, the son of Nanda Maharaja, is to be worshiped along with His transcendental abode, Vrindaavanaa. The most pleasing form of worship for the Lord is that which was performed by the Gopis of Vrindaavanaa. Srimad Bhagavatam is the spotless authority on everything, and pure love of God is the ultimate goal of life for all men. These statements, for which we have the highest regards, are the opinion of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu."

The three prerequisites for intensive prayers or ‘aaraadhana’, as spoken by our beloved Guru Maharaj is summarized under the following three heads:

1. Always see the good in others and cut short the material things not wasting any time.
2. Understand the importance of Krishna
3. Understand the futility of our bodily existence.

The first point was covered in the previous posting. Maharaj’s explanation on the second point is transcribed herewith:

2. Understand the importance of Krishna: You must see that Krishna is the all in all and whether you believe it or not, He is all in all anyway. May be for a whole life time, you don’t believe Him, but at the time of death, you cannot deny. That time we have to believe Him. Those who don’t bow down to Him during the life, Krishna will give the curved body in the old age and you will always be bowing down. He has His own ways to punish us. If you don’t put on saffron during the life, at the end of your life, He will definitely cover you with saffron because the jvaala or the flames of agni are saffron and your body is wrapped in saffron. You can’t see the body, you can see only jvaala. Saffron is renunciation. We shun from renunciation. That is our defect. Renounce means death for us. That is a very bad quality. We have to leave everything and that is definite. You may be thinking that I am expert in managing my affairs but till Krishna allows, till that time only you can manage. 'sahasaabhipadyase' (sudden seizure by the Lord) is there. One day He is going to come to you and easily swallow you. Within a second, you are there and you are not there and nobody will remember you. Within a week, they will forget. They will be busy with whatever material benefit they can get and that too they forget afterwards. He also lies down dead one day, after taking everything. He was thinking, 'How clever am I! I have amassed so much!' and at the end he has also to go. This is Bhagavatam. We can never win. Walk Or Run LOSE Definitely. That is this WORLD. You walk or run, you may amass so many things, but in the end you lose and LOSE is in capital letters. Walk or run is is in small letters. Please understand these things. Otherwise intensive prayers are not there. That is our defect. We don’t think about these things at all and we go to Bhagavad Gita. The whole Bhagavad Gita we know, but the basic principle we are not following. The basic understanding is not there. So the intensity of learning Bhagavad Gita is very low and if the intensity is not there, you may touch here and there but nothing you gain.

Try to have your own straight forward life and genuine devotional service. Otherwise be a genuine materialist. Genuine materialist is much better than a showy devotee. This is known as kaithava dharma. If you can’t go through the whole 12 cantos of Srimad Bhagavatam, at least go through the first two cantos again and again because these two cantos were written before Srila Prabhupada left for America. So he has given everything there. He did not hope to survive till he completed all the cantos. So he has given everything in the first two cantos. It should be repeatedly studied again and again otherwise we are wasting our human existence. All the paraphernalia is ready and all the directions are there. Why are we not going there? Ask the question yourself and understand the urgency and then our prayers become intense.

The next prerequisite for intensive prayers which is understanding the futility of the material existence shall be posted in the subsequent mail, Krishna willing.

Thank you very much.
Yours in the service of Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev,
