Achieving Success in our Occupation - Part 4

Vaijayanti mala devi dasi

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

This is in continuation of the previous offering transcribing the class by our beloved God brother HG Viraja Krishna prabhuji in Chennai on Brahma's prayers for creative energy (Srimad Bhagavatam verses 3.9.22-25) In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 3.9.23 Lord Brahma prays

esha prapanna-varado ramayaatma-shaktyaa
yad yat karishyati grhita-gunaavataarah

tasmin sva-vikramam idam srjato 'pi ceto

yunjita karma-shamalam ca yathaa vijahyaam

"The Supreme Lord, the Personality of Godhead, is always the benefactor of the surrendered souls. His activities are always enacted through His internal potency, Rama, or the goddess of fortune. I pray only to engage in His service in the creation of the material world, and I pray that I not be materially affected by my works, for thus I may be able to give up the false prestige of being the creator."

5. Work under the Lord's Divine potency: This is how we have to work. We have to be surrendered to Krishna. We have to know that the Lord is Varada – best in giving benedictions. Kulasekara alwar very nicely prays in the first verse of Mukundamala  stotra

sri vallabheti varadeti dayaapareti
bhakta-priyeti bhava-luntana-kovideti

naatheti naagashayaneti jagannivaasety

aalaapanam pratipadam kuru me mukunda

"O Mukunda, my Lord! Please enable me to constantly recite Your names, addressing You as very dear to Lakshmi, as the endower of benediction, causelessly merciful, very dear to devotees, expert in plundering the status quo of repeated birth and death, and as the resort of the cosmos, the real Lord who lies down on the serpent bed."

In order to attain the benedictions, we have to work under the Lord's divine potency - daivi shakti. In Srimad Bhagavad Gita 9.13 it is said

mahaatmaanas tu maam paartha / daivim prakrtim aashritaah
bhajanty ananya-manaso / jnaatvaa bhutaadim avyayam

"O son of Prtha, those who are not deluded, the great souls, are under the protection of the divine nature. They are fully engaged in devotional service because they know Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, original and inexhaustible."

The Lord acts on behalf of the devotees through His gunavatara. He assumes the three modes of nature. He expands Himself as Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. In Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.23 it is said:

sattvam rajas tama iti prakrter gunaams tair
yuktah parah purusha eka ihaasya dhatte

sthity-aadaye hari-virinci-hareti samjnaah

sreyaamsi tatra khalu sattva-tanor nrnaam syuh

"The transcendental Personality of Godhead is indirectly associated with the three modes of material nature, namely passion, goodness and ignorance, and just for the material world's creation, maintenance and destruction He accepts the three qualitative forms of Brahma, Vishnu and Siva. Of these three, all human beings can derive ultimate benefit from Vishnu, the form of the quality of goodness."

Krishna willing, we shall continue to hear more nectar from Prabhuji in the subsequent offerings.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Gurudev and Srila Prabhupada,

Vaijayanti mala devi dasi,

Abu dhabi.
