Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

This is in conclusion of the previous offering transcribing the class by our beloved God brother HG Viraja Krishna prabhuji in Chennai on Brahma's prayers for creative energy (Srimad Bhagavatam verses 3.9.22-25). So far we were seeing Prabhuji's explanation on Srimad Bhagavatam 3.9.22 through 24. Now we shall see further.

12. Praying for directions from the Lord: Lord Brahma prays in Srimad Bhagavatam 3.9.25

so 'saav adabhra-karuno bhagavaan vivrddha-
prema-smitena nayanaamburuham vijrmbhan

utthaaya vishva-vijayaaya ca no vishaadam

maadhvyaa giraapanayataat purushah puraanah

"The Lord, who is supreme and is the oldest of all, is unlimitedly merciful. I wish that He may smilingly bestow His benediction upon me by opening His lotus eyes. He can uplift the entire cosmic creation and remove our dejection by kindly speaking His directions."

To wake up Their Lordships in the morning, we recite this verse. Here Brahmaji says that Krishna is unlimitedly (adabhra) and excessively (vivrddha) merciful. Brahmaji is praying to the Lord, to smilingly bestow His benediction. Maharaj says that Krishna is always smiling. When we go to the Lord, we should be smiling also. Our face should be like water melon and not rotten banana. Then the Lord will reciprocate by smiling more.

Quite often we are dejected and depressed. We feel, "This work I can't do. This is difficult. This is beyond my means." In the first chapter of Srimad Bhagavad Gita which is entitled as 'Arjuna vishaada yoga', we see Arjuna lamenting that he can't kill his relatives. When we have to go to the job, we also become morose. Here we pray for vishva vijayaaya – we pray for Krishna's help to gain victory over the problem. This we do by seeking His sweet directions (maadhvyaa giraa). If we seek directions from Krishna, then He will give. He may not directly speak. But He will give the directions. He is perceived in the sound vibration of the verses. Through the verses of Srimad Bhagavatam, He will direct us what is to be done.

We may keep the photocopy of these four verses (SB 3.9.22-25) in our work station and before we start work, we may contemplate on these verses. Maharaj said that we should start all our work in this mood. This is how Brahmaji attained success in his occupation and Brahmaji is our acharya. We are from Brahma gaudiya sampradaya. We are very fortunate to belong to this sampradaya for two reasons. One is Caitanya Mahaprabhu comes in this sampradaya and the other is that if we look at all the four samparadayas, predominantly, Brahmaji has to carry out material works unlike Lakshmi Devi, Lord Shiva and Sanat Kumaras. And that is precisely how we can get inspiration from Brahma to carry on our material duties. By working in Brahmaji's mood our material work can be spiritualised. Lakshmi Devi, Lord Shiva and Sanat Kumaras are also doing work - but they are doing direct work for Krishna. That ultimately is our aim. But until we become qualified to do direct service or rather until we are materially attached we should work like Brahmaji.

We are blessed with these prayers by Brahmaji. All the credit should go to Srila Prabhupada. If  Srila Prabhupada had not given these prayers with all the English translations and commentaries, who will read this? We are indebted to our beloved Gurudev who showed us how to study Srila Prabhupada books. Studying Srila Prabhupada books is being with Srila Prabhupada. He has invested his heart and soul in Srimad Bhagavatam and these will be the law books for another 10000 years. So if you feel that you were not there when Srila Prabhupada was there, there is no reason for being despondent, because Srila Prabhupada is here in these books and we have to just bury our heads in Srimad Bhagavatam and we will find him here. We have to do it in the right mood as Bhagavatam tells us here -  in surrender, in prayer, in introspection without being proud, without deviation from chanting the Hare Krishna mahamantra, pray to Him for His sweet directions and recognize that He is our well wisher and He wants to share His domain of all opulences and He is unlimitedly and excessively merciful. If with this mood we dig into Srimad Bhagavatam, then He will really nicely guide us in our career and at the end of that, we will realize that somehow or the other Krishna will be pleased and He will want to directly employ us and that is the greatest promotion one can get to directly work for Srila Prabhupada's mission.

Our heartfelt thanks to HG Viraja Krishna Prabhuji for these valuable insights into these four prayers.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Gurudev and Srila Prabhupada,
