Nullify the Miseries - Part 9

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of the nectarean class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Singapore on 15th March 1992 on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.7.6. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj on the four defects present in us.  Now we shall continue to hear more nectar from Maharaj.

The chariot of the mind:
"In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 5.18.12,

yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā
sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ
harāv abhaktasya kuto mahad-guṇā
manorathenāsati dhāvato bahiḥ

All the demigods and their exalted qualities, such as religion, knowledge and renunciation, become manifest in the body of one who has developed unalloyed devotion for the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vasudeva. On the other hand, a person devoid of devotional service and engaged in material activities has no good qualities. Even if he is adept at the practice of mystic yoga or the honest endeavor of maintaining his family and relatives, he must be driven by his own mental speculations and must engage in the service of the Lord's external energy. How can there be any good qualities in such a man?

yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā - Those people who are nicely attracted to akincana, Krishna, then sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ - all good qualities, like demigods, all good qualities are assembling in their life. Those who are bhaktas, those who are Vaishnavas, they have all good qualities. They do not have to do separate endeavour to develop good qualities. As soon as you become bhakta, your life become simple. You don't hanker much. You don't lament that much. You treat everyone equally. You will not think, "This is from Perth, That one is from Thailand" etc..No. This is how we have to look to. harāv means Supreme Lord; abhaktā means non-devotees. kuto mahad guṇā? From where are they going to get good qualities? Then what is their position?  manorathenāsati dhāvato bahiḥ - They sit on the chariot and their chariot is mind. You sit on the mind and then dhāvato - you run after outward things. And then mind is swift. It is very fast. I am coming from London and I know London. So within a second I can go to London and come back. If you know America, you can go and come back within few seconds. By air, it takes 35 hours to travel. What to talk of ship or anything else? With our legs we will never be able to go. We will never be able to move around. Thats the speed of the mind. Our friend was riding on the mind. (In the glassware story) and because he was riding in the chariot he lost all the glassware worth 10Rs completely and that was his only capital. He completely lost everything and this is the chariot of the mind."

Krishna willing we shall continue to hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Hare Krishna.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
