Need for Training

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

Whenever one get a new job or move into a new role in any profession, then he/she undergoes "training", so that they can adapt to the new environment and perform their duties nicely. Not only at work, even at home parents train their children - so that they become useful members in this society. In Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 1, Chapter 7 we find how Draupadi is not only forgiving Ashwattama, but also insisting her husbands to do so.

uvaaca caasahanty asya / bandhanaanayanam sati
mucyataam mucyataam esha / braahmano nitaraam guruh

"She could not tolerate Ashvatthaamaa's being bound by ropes, and being a devoted lady, she said: Release him, for he is a brahmana, our spiritual master."

In his wonderful lecture on verse 1.7.41-42, Srila Prabhupada appreciates her kind heart and says, "Therefore according to Vedic civilization, the woman must be protected because they are very simple. They can be led to goodness also very easily, and they can be polluted also very easily. By nature, they are very simple. Therefore shaastra says that... Just like child. If you mold the character of a child from the very beginning, then he can become a great man. Similarly, if you train woman from the very beginning how to become chaste and faithful to the husband, they can become a very good mother, very good asset in the family. So there is sufficient information in the Vedic literatures how a man should be trained up, a boy should be trained up, a girl should be trained up, so that in future they may become happy. "

When children are not trained properly during the childhood, then at later stages of life, they end up giving more pain to others. Quoting the words of Canakya Pandit His Divine Grace says,

maataa yasya grhe naasti / bhaaryaa caapriya-vaadini
aranyam tena gantavyam / yathaaranyam tathaa grham

He advises, if one has no mother at home and wife is apriya-vaadini, she talks very roughly, not very nicely, then that person immediately leave that home and go to the forest.

yathaaranyam tathaa grham. For him, either at home or in the forest, the same thing. yathaaranyam tathaa grham - This is Vedic culture. Woman should be trained up from the very beginning how to become good wife and good mother. That is the duty."

In this world we would have practically seen the truth behind these statements of sadhus and shastras. Be it man or woman - it is very important that everyone is trained more importantly in the art of self-realisation. When one is taught the real purpose of life - and remains fixed in their goal of going back home, back to Godhead, then he/she will not waste time or energy in petty fights and misunderstandings. Rather one would strictly and sincerely engage themselves in Krishna's service and also encourage and inspire the other family members also to take up this path of devotional service.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much,
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
