Qualify to See Krishna - Part 1

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

In Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.19 Kunti Maharani in her prayers to Krishna says,

māyā-javanikācchannam ajñādhokṣajam avyayam
na lakṣyase mūḍha-dṛśā naṭo nāṭyadharo yathā

"Being beyond the range of limited sense perception, You are the eternally irreproachable factor covered by the curtain of deluding energy. You are invisible to the foolish observer, exactly as an actor dressed as a player is not recognized."

Krishna covers Himself with the curtain of illusory energy to those who foolishly decry Him as an ordinary person. His Divine Grace in his lecture on the above verse says, "ajnaa means rascal, who has no knowledge, dull, dull-headed, mudha, ass. These words are used in the shaastra. Why mudha?  The word is used as an, an ass. The ass, amongst the animals, is the most, I mean to say, what is called, foolish, most foolish. The ass works very hard, and bears burden, heavy burden, ton, but he does not know "Why I am carrying so big burden? Why I have taken so much responsibility?" That he does not know. So here you will find so many big, big politicians, leaders, they have accepted big, big burden like an ass, but they do not know why they are doing so. They do not know. Their only solace is a temporary satisfaction that "I have become president," "I have become this master," "I have become this," for few years. But he does not know what is his real business. So therefore the karmis, they are working hard day and night, but he does not know why he is working so hard day and night."

After taking this rare human birth, if we don't use this opportunity to realise our original position, the transcendental powerful nature of Supreme Lord and our relationship with Him, then we are as good as ass. Without Krishna's grace we cannot see Him. Srila Prabhupada also mentions how those who commit sinful acts, can never be recipients of Lord's grace and therefore do not qualify to see Krishna. He says, "Who can see Krishna? Who is not sinful. yeshaam tv anta-gatam paapam [Bg. 7.28], one who has finished his life of sinful activities, he can understand Krishna. Therefore it is our request to everyone: Please do not commit these four kinds of sinful activities—illicit sex, meat-eating, gambling and intoxication. This is the preliminary qualification to understand God."

In order to make us qualified to see Krishna, Srila Prabhupada laid down the four regulative principles and also taught us the process of devotional service - so that gradually by the mercy of Guru paramapara, we become eligible to see Krishna. When we are covered by sins, we would not be able to appreciate or understand how Krishna is omnipresent, He is present within hearts of all living entities and at the same time He is present outside this creation as well. Quoting the example of Mother Yashoda, His Divine Grace also says that how by Krishna's grace, devotees not only see Krishna, but can see the whole creation also within the Lord's mouth.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
