Glorify the All-Glorious - Part 3

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

We are continuing with the transcription of the beautiful lecture that H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj gave in Boston, Australia on 23rd May 1997.

In the previous offerings we saw:

1. Glorify the all-glorious to become glorious.
2. Without Krishna we are living dead.
3. Krishna is not the object of mind and intelligence.
4. Be touched by Krishna and become enlivened.

Maharaj has been explaining the meaning of the prayer by Dhruva Maharaj (SB 4.9.6), wherein he prays to the Lord to enter into his sleeping tongue and enliven it. Let us continue further,

dhruva uvāca
yo ’ntaḥ praviśya mama vācam imāṁ prasuptāṁ
sañjīvayaty akhila-śakti-dharaḥ sva-dhāmnā
anyāṁś ca hasta-caraṇa-śravaṇa-tvag-ādīn
prāṇān namo bhagavate puruṣāya tubhyam

5. Sleeping Tongue will Wake up by Tasting Krishna: When You (Krishna) enter in my vāca then what happens is described in the second line very nicely. sañjīvayaty akhila-śakti-dharaḥ sva-dhāmnā. Prabhupada has given all the meaning. We don't have to do anything. Just we have to go through very carefully. Everything is ready here. He did the job for us. You know when the child is very young, he doesn't have the teeth even. So what the mother does is she chews the food for him and make it a nice semi-liquid food and puts the food in the mouth. Child has to only move the jaws and swallow nicely. Our mother Prabhupada has also chewed these difficult scriptures and made it as semi-solid for us. He is putting it in our mouth. We are so very lazy that we are not moving the jaws even (laughter). So please move your jaws. Shall I have to show you how to move your jaws? (laughs). This is how you know we are really rascals. Once we were in San Diego and one of the devotees had a computer with him. In computer, we can find out so many things. Prabhupada always quoted 'Krishna, Krishna'. So how many times he has quoted Krishna, I asked him. He found that more than 5000 times Prabhupada has quoted 'Krishna' in his lectures and speeches. So I asked him, "How many times Prabhupada has quoted 'Rascal'?" He was using this word very often you know. 'Rascal' he has used more than 7000 times (laughter). It proves that we are so very degraded that we don't want to move our jaws also. As soon as you move your jaws, you understand everything.

sañjīvayaty, you know Shukracarya had the sanjeevini mantra. Sanjeevini means to make it come to life again. When the demigods and demons fight, the demigods were killing the demons. But Shukracarya goes to the battlefield and all those dead demons come back to life because of the sanjeevini mantra. So this our suṣupta vāca, as soon as Krishna enters, sañjīvayaty, it comes to life. Otherwise what we have? We don't have anything. As soon as you take Krishna in your tongue, your tongue becomes lively, sañjīvayaty. śakti-dharaḥ means the source of the energy is Krishna. The name of Krishna is śakti-dharaḥ. sva-dhāmnā means through Your internal potency You have got that energy which enters in our tongue and forces us to become lively. Otherwise our tongue is completely sleeping always, many times talking non-sense. So this should stop immediately, and we should pray to Krishna that somehow or other, You please sit on my tongue. (Maharaj sings the verse again joyfully with repetition).

6. With Krishna Everything becomes Lively: Then we come to the third line. Dhruva Maharaj says that not only my vāca, as soon as You enter into my existence, then anyāṁś ca, something else also becoming lively. What is it? hasta, caraṇa, śravaṇa, tvag, ādīn. hasta means my hands also become lively. My hands are dead, but as soon as you enter in us, my hands have become lively. And carana, my legs also become lively when I walk to the temple or wherever You stay. (Maharaj points to the devotees and says) See, you have driven long distance to come here. Why? It is not the plate of prasadam only (laughter). But there is something else. That is why we devotees are attracted you know. As magnet attracts the iron pieces and iron pieces are helplessly going to the magnet. They don't want to go, but they have to go. It is called vivaśaḥ, helplessly they are attracted. They can't keep away. That should be our nature. That we should not be able to be away from Bhagavatam. Bhagavatam is magnet and we are iron pieces. So iron pieces are attracted to the magnet. Nobody has to tell them, "Hey come on get up". No. no. As soon as the magnet is there, the iron pieces will have to run. So Dhruva Maharaj says, "As soon as You come to my life, my hands become lively, my legs become lively - hasta, caraṇa. śravaṇa, my ears become lively and tvag, my skin is also lively." And ādīn, means etcetera. Everything else also becomes lively. This is the third line. anyāṁś ca hasta-caraṇa-śravaṇa-tvag-ādīn. And then one more he says in the last line - prāṇān, my life air also becomes very lively. As soon as I come to You the whole existence becomes very lively. prāṇān namo bhagavate puruṣāya tubhyam. I pay my obeisances to the Supreme Lord.

Krishna willing we shall continue to hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Kalacakra Krsna das.
