Transcendental Reminiscences – Part 7

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

The following is a humble effort to transcribe some of the reminiscences of HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj that he has shared in his classes around the world. In the previous offering Maharaj shared Prabhupada's message on seeing Krishna in every living entity who is having common time with us in this planet. Though we do not know how, but all those who are living on the planet at the same time are all related to one another and so it is very important that we develop a nice relationship with everyone around us. We must not feel any difference between other living entities and ourselves but see everyone as part and parcel of the same Father Krishna. Let us hear further from Maharaj.

7. Prabhupada's way to attract all living beings: "Outside living entities, who are not in this movement, they also are related. And one thing we have to remember again that we are here in a very nice atmosphere here. Being very near to Krishna and very near to books and scriptures and hearing Bhagavatam and hearing Krishna katha daily, we are very happy. But those who are coming from outside they are really burning with the miseries. So whoever comes here, it is our duty to calm them down and how to calm them, just smile at them, talk to them nicely, offer some prasadam to them, and that will really attract them to come to the temple very often. And this was Prabhupada's method you know.

The Americans were not at all favorable but what Prabhupada used to do, he used to prepare big jar of rasagullas you know and used to keep that jar near the door. And the hippies they used to come and put the first rasagulla in their mouth and say, "Prabhupada how are you?" The rasgulla is in the mouth and he would think, "Oh Prabhupada is beautiful." It was not that they came to hear Krishna katha. It was rasagulla for which they were attracted. (everyone laughs). So many elevated living entities, they were ringing from their offices. "Prabhupada, you prepare nice samosas very nicely. Please I am coming for lunch, you prepare." His Divine Grace will say, "Yes, yes you come." And Prabhupada used to prepare samosas. Then when they came to the movement they thought, "What happened, what we have done, we have ordered him to make samosas and he used to do it." And then they would go in to his room and say, "Prabhupada, we are very sorry." His Divine Grace would ask, “What is the matter?” They would reply, "We were really troubling you for samosas." (Everyone laughs). He said, "You don't understand. I was buying you by giving samosas." (Maharaj laughs loudly with everyone else.) "I did not have Lakshmi, but I wanted to buy you. So, I had only samosas. So, because I gave you samosas you are now my slave.” (Loud laughter). These are very simple things, but these things make us great. Simple things make us great."

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
