The Greatest Achievement - Part 1

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

The following is a humble effort to transcribe one of the nectarean classes given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.19.5 in Sydney on 6th July 2003.

Gurudev: We are reading from the same chapter, "The Appearance of Sukadev Goswami", from 1st canto, verse number 5

atho vihāyemam amuṁ ca lokaṁ
vimarśitau heyatayā purastāt
kṛṣṇāṅghri-sevām adhimanyamāna
upāviśat prāyam amartya-nnadyām

Mahārāja Parīkṣit sat down firmly on the banks of the Ganges to concentrate his mind in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, rejecting all other practices of self-realization, because transcendental loving service to Kṛṣṇa is the greatest achievement, superseding all other methods.

The five verses (1.19.1-5) they are very important which we are doing now. Please recite the whole thing. When the pronunciations are clear and we have bit of idea of the meaning, the transcendental vibration of these verses, innumerable verses are non different from the transcendental vibration of Kṛṣṇa. Because they are non different, they are satisfying. So even if you don't understand, please go on chanting.

(Quoting verse 12.13.1 from Srimad Bhagavatam very beautifully Gurudev says) He says in this verse

yaṁ brahmā varuṇendra-rudra-marutaḥ stunvanti divyaiḥ stavair
vedaiḥ sāṅga-pada-kramopaniṣadair gāyanti yaṁ sāma-gāḥ
dhyānāvasthita-tad-gatena manasā paśyanti yaṁ yogino
yasyāntaṁ na viduḥ surāsura-gaṇā devāya tasmai namaḥ

The supreme knowledge of the Supreme Absolute Truth is very easy to derive because nothing else is existing except Him. And herein very nicely Suta Goswami has given. So very nice description. yaṁ brahmā varuṇendra-rudra-marutaḥ, all this, all this demigods you know. And Brahma, Varuna, Indra, Rudra, Marutaih hi, all these are demigods. Brahma is the Supreme one among demigods. Varuna, Rudra, Marutaih, Indra everybody, they all sing His glories. Not only that but the personified vedas also sing at the loudest pitch the glories of Kṛṣṇa. sanga krama pada upanisadaih all the Upanisads, all the Puranas, samaga, everything sing the glory of the Lord.

This same idea is conveyed in this purport. And really if you want to run after anything, it's only the Supreme Absolute Truth Kṛṣṇa. Otherwise all other things are useless. What to talk of the living entity, even the demigods are nowhere. They are very powerful. They are selected by Kṛṣṇa to perform certain duty for the manifestation. So how powerful they should be! Highly elevated living entities. We can never condemn the demigods. Where there is highest perfection we have, we see in them. Who can be selected as the god of water, or god of fire or god of air? Highly realised living entity should be selected. And these demigods they say that, "Please Lord, we have so long life, you have selected us as the highest officers in your manifestation. But please as soon as we finish this give us the birth on the earth planet".

Krishna willing we will try to hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
