Pass on the Bhagavatam Tradition - Part 1

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

The following is a humble effort to transcribe one of the nectarean class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.3.11. Now let us hear from Maharaj.

1. Relish the association of Krishna
Gurudev: So, we are looking today from the 1st canto, chapter 3, “Kṛṣṇa is the source of all incarnations” and we are looking to verse number 11.

ṣaṣṭham atrer apatyatvaṁ vṛtaḥ prāpto ’nasūyayā
ānvīkṣikīm alarkāya prahlādādibhya ūcivān

The sixth incarnation of the puruṣa was the son of the sage Atri. He was born from the womb of Anasūyā, who prayed for an incarnation. He spoke on the subject of transcendence to Alarka, Prahlāda and others [Yadu, Haihaya, etc.].

We should be clear about these things that since we decide to come in the morning for Bhagavatam class, since then we relish the association of Kṛṣṇa. The idea begins first and as soon as the idea is there, immediately Kṛṣṇa associates with us. Not only today, but yesterday night you might have decided that we must come to hear and as soon as you have this transcendental idea, since then we are in touch with Kṛṣṇa. Please, relish Kṛṣṇa in every moment. And then correct pronunciation is the way to get near Him. These scriptures as we saw they are non-different from Kṛṣṇa. So non-different means everything regarding the scripture is non-different from Kṛṣṇa. Please relish every moment and please correctly pronounce. (Gurudev taught how to sing this verse and correct the pronunciation of long and short notes each time when devotees recite it.)

This aṁ in Sanskrit is the form of Om and praṇavaḥ sarva-vedeṣu (BG 7.8), He says I am non-different from Omkara. ṣaṣṭham atrer apatyatvaṁ (Gurudev vibrates aṁ very beautifully)  Please, those who are taking classes in Bhagavad Gita or whatever, they should be very particular about the pronunciations. If you wrongly pronounce the hearers will take the wrong pronunciation and then the meaning completely changes you know.  At my age, I am able to vibrate the throat, what is happening to your throats? (laughs) Have you the throats? You forgot it at home. We should vibrate these verses in a peaceful situation when we are on our own. That will give you the association of Kṛṣṇa you know.

(Gurudev made the devotees repeat the translation and then read the purport of the above verse.)

Krishna willing we shall continue to hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offerings.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Krishnarati devi dasi
