Amogha-drk Krishna das

Dear Vaishnavas,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

The following is our notes from the pravachan of our most beloved Gurudeva Maharaja, His Holiness Mahavishnu Goswami, given in London on October 30, 2007.

1) What is required and what is not required: In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.15.5 Arjuna shares with Maharaj Yudhishtira, his grief of separation from the Lord.

arjuna uvāca
vañcito ’haṁ mahā-rāja hariṇā bandhu-rūpiṇā
yena me ’pahṛtaṁ tejo deva-vismāpanaṁ mahat

Arjuna said: O King! The Supreme Personality of Godhead Hari, who treated me exactly like an intimate friend, has left me alone. Thus my astounding power, which astonished even the demigods, is no longer with me.

Maharaja said, Krishna withdrew Arjuna's ability because this ability is not for going back to Godhead. At the time of death it is very difficult to remember Krishna, particularly when body is not co-operating. That is why Kulasekara Azhwar prays in Mukunda-mala verse 33,

kṛṣṇa tvadīya-pada-pańkaja-pañjarāntam
adyaiva me viśatu mānasa-rāja-haḿsaḥ
prāṇa-prayāṇa-samaye kapha-vāta-pittaiḥ
kaṇṭhāvarodhana-vidhau smaraṇaḿ kutas te

My Lord Krishna, I pray that the swan of my mind may immediately sink down to the stems of the lotus feet of Your Lordship and be locked up in their network; otherwise at the time of my final breath, when my throat is choked up with cough, how will it be possible to think of You?

Lord Krishna is very kind you know. Even if smaraṇaṁ is not there, if you have been running after Him your whole life, He picks you up.

2) Motivated and unmotivated devotional service: For example, there was this man, who said, "I am your disciple", but he always stayed away, until the time when he got some bodily trouble. Then he came to hear Krishna katha. Initially people come to devotional service with some motives. The point is that people do hear, if there are some practical things. So when we speak about Krishna to them, we should understand their situation, the problems they are going through, and provide a practical way of bhakti as per their situation.

In the temple it is very difficult to find unmotivated servants. Therefore they pay them to get the job done. But this should be avoided. Those who are very sincere, only they should be maintained. Because the serious study is lacking everywhere, therefore we are losing the sincere devotional service everywhere. Prabhupada said once, "Even if you are engaged in other services for 20 hours a day, you should allocate at least couple of hours for chanting and reading." As soon as we stop reading our mind is wasted.

3) Consistency is goodness; goodness is Vishnu: Granthraj is good for printing and for distribution to devotees. So many subjects are there. Whatever work we are doing, keep firm with it, because consistency is goodness. Creation and destruction is passion and ignorance, but to maintain, in other words, consistency is Vishnu. Even in material things consistency is needed; For example we have to go to work every day. Maturity is only there when Krishna is present. As long as Krishna is not there, immaturity is present.

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Amogha-drk Krishna das
