Just Chant - Part 4

Srilakshmi devi dasi

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering, "Just Chant", which is transcription of one of the nectarean class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 12.13.23. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj that

1. Krishna's name is the Supreme medicine for all situations.
2. Meeting others is like re-birth
3. Hear about Krishna.

So let's hear further from Maharaj.

4. Just Chant:
Maharaj: Our culture, it’s very old. You know Venezuela, we were in Venezuela in South America and Venezuela word comes from Sanskrit. Venu-ujjwalaujjwala means bright and venu means flute. Krishna’s flute is very bright. Anything regarding Krishna is very bright. So from venu ujjwala, it is coming Venezuela. Then we went there and they had so many different names of the mountains you know and every name of that is attached with Meru. And Meru is the important mountain which we don’t have idea because it is not there in this universe, south of the universe. That’s why chinak meru and manak meruChinak and Manak were names of the mountains. But for mountain, it was meru. This shows that this Vedic culture should be present there.

From there we went to Gaute mala and Gaute mala is a very small stretch of land in between two great oceans. On one side, there is Pacific Ocean which is extra large king size ocean and then on the other side is Atlantic Ocean. And both of these oceans, they try to meet each other and this stretch stops them in middle. So it creates a wind. That wind moves in a circle from one ocean and other ocean and the land. It just goes on. So if you go there, you will experience this that the wind is always in circle. It’s not straight. And because it is in circle, it is known as mala. Mala is the circle. And Vāta-mala - that is the Sanskrit name. From Vāta-mala it has become Gaute-mala. The point is, if we keep our eyes open, you will find this ancient culture in any part of the world. The basic culture is this. We are heir-apparent of the most important culture. And in Kali yuga, Caitanya Mahaprabhu has simplified the devotional service and He has given us the instruction that you please just chant His names in sankirtan.

We alone, if we alone chant, we call it japa and if you are in a group, then it is known as sankirtan. And how relishable it is. Just Radha Madhava we sang. Very nice, you have to, (appreciating the devotee who sang Maharaj says)  Before you perform the operation on your feet, you will have throat transplant. You take my throat and give me yours. This is nice singing you know. We just sing this bhajan anywhere and people will run after you. Because there is nobody singing very sentimental you know. We may think that everything will go on and start singing and everybody will go out when we start singing. (laughter) gardhab raag - in Sanskrit it is known as gardhab raag. gardhab means donkey. Donkey also thinks he is singing, "I am singing, I am singing"  and all animals also run away and what to talk of humans. And we thinks that it is classical singing, "I am singing, I am singing." (laughter)

So instead of we attracted to these nonsensical things and wasting our time valuable human existence, we must come to this process and then you please start with reading Bhagavad Gita in group. You start from 4 seed verses you know, 10th chapter verse number 8, 9, 10, 11 then goto 12th chapter. Now its enough you have started. You have studied some bhajan here and there. Now it is time that we should sit cross legged. And our own this place is mandir and this is how wherever devotees are staying, it is a temple. Nice temple is here. No need of going anywhere, if you cannot go. It is better to go to the temple, so that again we have a sankirtan you know, you have some association. And by the association we are enthused. On our own, we lose the enthusiasm. So sometime we have to come together.

Krishna willing we will continue to hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Srilakshmi devi dasi
Kurnool.
