The Soul is Nourished Only by Bhakti - Part 3

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of one of the nectarean class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on Bhagavad Gita verses 2.62-63 in Auckland, Newzealand in the year 1995. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj,

1. Bhakti purifies our life.
2. Wind up from illusory energy.

Now let's hear further nectar from Maharaj.

3. Purify your tendencies:
Maharaj: So we should thoroughly understand and learn. Even if you don’t understand, you please try to learn 12th chapter which is the shortest chapter, only 20 verses you know. And then, we are performing bhakti yoga for Krishna. So what Krishna says about Himself is described in Purushottama yoga that is 15th chapter. Again it is the shortest chapter to which we must go. So these 20 verses from 12th chapter, 20 verses from 15th chapter and atleast 4 verses seed verses, atleast these 44 verses should be with us. Somehow or the other, from our busy schedule of the time, we must take time to go through these things and there are innumerable very important verses in Bhagavad Gita. Particularly the second chapter is very important. If you learn, the whole philosophy will be with you eternally.

We should be very clear about our existence in the material manifestation. This existence, however we arrange very nicely, may be we are situated in a nice beautiful country like Newzealand, but even then it is temporary. It cannot last long. That is for certain. And when it is going to end, we don’t know. But at the end of the life, when we have to quit this material body, that time, if our sadhana is not complete, we may start chanting, we may try to understand Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, we may associate with the devotees and try to purify ourselves, but at the time of the death, if the sadhana is not complete, even then, in any case, you have to forget this material body. You cannot take the material body with you, that is for certain. But if the sadhana is not complete, we take our subtle body with us. And subtle body comprises of mind, intelligence and ego. So mind always accompanies us.

Since last innumerable lives, atleast one round of 8,400,000 lives we have carried the mind together. And so mind has that impressions of all the bodies. And that’s why many times we behave funny you know. It has the roots in our mind, because the tendencies are carried. We don’t remember that we were donkey, but we work like a donkey and that comes from the tendency. You know few people are just they work, workaholics they call it, we call it. They want to work, they want to work, that’s it, you forget about it, forget about it. And they have selected one line from Bhagavad Gita, what is that; (Srimad Bhagavad Gita 2.47) - karmaṇy evādhikāras te mā phaleṣu kadācana… mā phaleṣu kadācana  they don’t want. karmay evādhikāras te , karma yoga they call. And we were in one village near  Ahmedabad, he had that stone crushing manufacture factory you know. You know machines of stone crushing, he was having that factory and his truck was also known as 'karma yoga', his compound was also known as 'karma yoga', everything  'karma yoga'. I do this 'karma yoga'. What is this karma yoga? He said, "my father believed in karma yoga." So I said, "this is not karma yoga. Karma is joined to you, not to yoga. It is nothing you are utilizing for Krishna." They are very proud, "we do karma yoga we have to work, we have to work." Forget everything and since morning till night, you struggle with this iron you  know. That is karma yoga? So that is not the way. These tendencies have to be purified. Otherwise these tendencies will kill us.  .

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Govindang Krishna das
Baroda.
