Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.
This is in continuation of the transcription of one of the nectarean class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on Bhagavad Gita verses 2.62-63 in Auckland, Newzealand in the year 1995. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj,
1. Bhakti purifies our life.
2. Wind up from illusory energy.
3. Purify your tendencies.
Now let's hear further nectar from Maharaj.
3. Purify your tendencies
Maharaj: Because so many adhama bodies completely lowest of the existence, we were in and so it becomes our duty in this, in this very conscious existence, that we have to have a very nice traditions in us. So the traditions will have a very favourable tendencies in our mind. So wherever we go, may be don’t know really. According to our karma, we may have to accept some bodies here and there. But even then, the tendency will be there. That even if you are a horse, you will be a good horse. Even if you are pig, you will be a good pig. This good tendency should be there. Otherwise whatever tendencies we have, we have to carry. You know there is very funny example. Don’t follow this example, but understand the meaning of it you know. I’ll give it.
In Bombay you know, there was one pickpocketeer. You know pickpocketeer, are they here, anyone?. No! they don’t pick pocket. (In lighter vein Maharaj says) oh you lack them? It’s perfection of existence. It’s very easy you know, pickpocket and the whole thing goes away. And you never know. They are very expert in that. So the pickpocketeer was very happy you know, cutting the pockets and getting so much money. So eventually, he wanted to marry. So he thought that, "I am a pickpocketeer, I must have a pickpocketeer wife. (Maharaj laughs) and the business will be double." So he tried to find out all over India you know. Fortunately he didn’t come to foreign countries. So he went around. Didn’t find any girl who was expert in pickpocket. Eventually he came to Calcutta and that was the place, to find out his wife. He didn’t come to Dwaraka, otherwise in Dwaraka we have. You know thousands of people come to have a darshan of Dwarakdeesh and they crowd in thousands there you know. So big crowd is there and these ladies particularly, "ha ha ha ha.. Dwarakadeesh ki jai!" And they are very engrossed in darshan you know. And these girl-pickpocketeers are there. They snatch their necklaces and everything and run away and in the crowd nobody knows who is pickpocketeer. So Dwaraka is also famous really.
So fortunately he went to Calcutta. So he found out a girl who was a pickpocketeer. So he married, business boomed, doubled business. So beautiful. He said, “I am now perfect human being. Big house and everything and paraphernalia.” They are very honest in pickpocketing. He said, "we do our business very honestly." So everything was going on alright and then the child was to come after a year or so. So both were praying. They had a Krishna temple in the house. So they were praying, “Lord you know that I am pickpocketeer, my wife is pickpocketeer, I must have a supreme pickpocketeer son (laughter) so our parampara will be carried on.” This was his tradition you know.. So they were praying very hard you know. "Krishna, you are very merciful You always fulfill the desire. So our wish is this that we must have pickpocketeer son."
So in time, the child was born and to their surprise, his right hand was completely tight fist, he couldn’t open the hand. The child could not open the hand. So they tried very hard that the child should open the hand. Otherwise how is he going to continue in the pickpocketing business - if his fist is tight? So they were very much worried. That our parampara is now going to stop. Our child must be a pickpocketeer. So they tried hard you know, went to so many doctors, somehow or the other they said the doctor, "you please help us and let this child open the hand.” But the child wouldn’t open the hand. So what happened they went to one psychiatrist. And then the psychiatrist thought that the father is pickpocketeer, mother is pickpocketeer, so child must be doing the same thing. So he might have something in the hand, which he is holding. So if he can show him nice thing, nice diamond necklace or gold, very nice, then may be he will leave that thing and he will open to grab the bigger booty. So they prepared a nice necklace you know, with all diamonds and jewels and everything, and they showed to the child and child opened the hand you know. Immediately he wanted to grab that necklace and the ring fell out of the child’s hand and that ring, nurse’s ring, nurse was searching for her ring.(laughter) This is how the tendencies are carried on. So either you have pickpocketing tendency or you have a bhakti tendency.
Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Govindang Krishna das
