The Soul is Nourished Only by Bhakti - Part 5

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of one of the nectarean class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on Bhagavad Gita verses 2.62-63 in Auckland, Newzealand in the year 1995. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj,

1. Bhakti purifies our life.
2. Wind up from illusory energy.
3. Purify your tendencies.

Now let's hear further nectar from Maharaj.

4. Understand your position:
Maharaj: So please somehow or the other we should continue and find out the impediments on this path and for that there are very nice verses particularly if you cannot, may be it would be impossible for you to learn whole chapter 72 verses. It’s not impossible at all. But suppose you can’t do it, atleast you learn the last 18 verses. We start from verse number 54 to 72, 18-19 verses you must study. Out of those verses we are thinking about two verses today. So please repeat after me. (Maharaj chants Bhagavad Gita verses 2.62-63 and devotees follow.)

dhyāyato viṣayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣūpajāyate
saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho ’bhijāyate

krodhād bhavati sammohaḥ sammohāt smṛti-vibhramaḥ
smṛti-bhraṁśād buddhi-nāśo buddhi-nāśāt praṇaśyati

While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises. From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory. When memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again into the material pool. (Bg 2.62-63)

Supreme logician, He knows that we people are very much engrossed and enamored by His illusory energy. And He wants to give the real knowledge, so that we will have immunity. You know if there is some epidemic, we get the virus and if you get that injection, then your body becomes immune and that disease will not touch you. The same way we are forced to be in a diseased condition. This our material body and the material activities which pertain only to our sense gratification - it is a diseased condition of our original spiritual existence. We are spirit souls. We have nothing to do with the illusory energy of the Lord. But because of the diseased condition, we are following those activities more keenly than to recognize our own transcendental existence and Krishna doesn't want this.

Somehow or the other, by our activities and under Krishna’s supervision, we have fortunately got this body. It’s very clearly said in Srimad Bhagavatam (3.31.1) that daivena and karmanā, daivena means under supervision of Krishna and karmanā by our own karmani, karmas activities; jantur dehopapattaye; jantuh means living entities and they got this material body. And as soon as our material body is fixed, then without exception, we have to enter into the womb of the mother. striyā praviṣṭa udara puso reta-kaāśrayaḥ. And as soon as we are forced to enter into the mother’s womb, Krishna again, out of His kindness He selects our mother and father. It is not our selection. Our parents are not our selection, please remember. I didn’t select my father and mother, it was Krishna’s selection. And because it is Krishna’s selection, it becomes our pious duty to serve our father and mother very nicely till they are alive. Being older than us, they are going to go away before us. So till they are there, with  our best ability we should serve. Don’t look to your father or mother that they are eating meat or this or that no. Always you have a loving relationship and not only relationship, but serve them. And because of their blessings, you may be successful in your spiritual life. If they are not giving you the blessings, you will be completely unsuccessful in your spiritual activities. This has got to be remembered

And as soon as He puts the soul into the semen of the father, then the soul develops the body in the womb of the mother. That is the thing. And we have completely forgotten about these activities. Bhagavatam reminds us very lovingly, that you please living entity, you understand your own position in this material manifestation. And as soon as our position is clear in our mind, then the best thing happens to our existence. Then we don’t go running around here and there, here and there, here and there. No. Now we only go to the places wherein our soul is nourished.

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Govindang Krishna das
