The Soul is Nourished Only by Bhakti - Part 7

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of one of the nectarean class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on Bhagavad Gita verses 2.62-63 in Auckland, Newzealand in the year 1995. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj,

1. Bhakti purifies our life.
2. Wind up from illusory energy.
3. Purify your tendencies.
4. Understand your position.
5. Hold onto lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada.

Now let's hear further nectar from Maharaj.

6. Obey Krishna's words
Maharaj: (Thanking Prabhupada's efforts to help us realise our own existence Maharaj continued) Otherwise we are just like cats and dogs, may be lower than that. You know, you take a donkey which is a celebrated fool among the animals also. The horse also knows that donkey is a fool animal. But even donkey, you offer a beer glass, a glass of beer, he will not touch it. "Hey donkey, you don’t drink, I drink." So we become lower than a donkey. The foolish animal also is better than us, that at least he follows the dictations of Krishna that, "you should not eat anything else apart from grass and he sticks to that." He is very nice that way, donkey is much better than us.

Our teeth are suitable for vegetarian teeth, vegetarian food. We forget this. We are not a donkey you know; donkey is better than us. He remembers Krishna’s instructions that hey you have to eat grass and he will only eat grass that’s all. But we are lower than donkey. Krishna says that, "you please patram pushpam phalam toyam ( BG 9.26), you eat these things." He says, "Krishna doesn’t have any mind." We go and cut the cow or goat or pig or hog or we don’t really what and become like a hog. Why should you become like a hog in human existence? And if you want to be hog, then Krishna will fulfill that desire also. Alright, go to next life and lie in Vrindavan gutter - "bha bha".    What comes on, you dig.

That’s the main danger in the spiritual life. We have to come to our senses to recognize the instructions which are coming directly from the Lord. dharma tu sākād bhagavat-praīta (SB 6.3.19) And because it is coming from Bhagavan, He is our very kind father; He wants us to be very happy. And in order to be happy, He has chalked out the program and in these two verses, He gives you the main impediments - "you please come out of it," He says. And repeat the equivalents after me please…

dhyāyataḥ — while contemplating; viṣayān — sense objects; puṁsaḥ — of a person; saṅgaḥ — attachment; teṣu — in the sense objects; upajāyate — develops; saṅgāt — from attachment; sañjāyate — develops; kāmaḥ — desire; kāmāt — from desire; krodhaḥ — anger; abhijāyate — becomes manifest.

It’s very easy to understand. There are four stages in this verse. First we meditate to contemplate on something. Some desire is there you know, "I want to buy a house you know?" No, no. Supreme desire is, "I want to marry." That’s supreme desire. There are so many desires that, "I want to buy a palace, I want to go to Newzealand, I want to go here, I want to go there." And so many desires you know. But we catch one desire and we meditate on it. So many desires we ignore you know. So those desires don’t do any harm to us. But one desire we just contemplate you know - "I want to marry, I want to marry, Hare marriage Hare marriage marriage marriage." (laughter) Existence is full, full of this - fulfilling of this desire. This is desire, desire, very acute desire.  And as soon as desire is there, if there is some impediment to it, either the girl denies or the girl doesn’t show any interest, becomes very angry, "What is this? I am the Prince, you know!  She denies, you know?" (laughter) Doesn’t know that he has monkey like face because of the desire. (laughter).

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Govindang Krishna das
Baroda.
