The Open Secret for Spiritual Success - Part 4

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering - "The Open Secret for Spiritual Success" wherein we were meditating on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 2.1.12. We saw

1. All shastras and acaryas freely distribute to us the open secret for spiritual success - harer nāmānukīrtanam - constant chanting of Holy Names.
2. By offending a devotee either intentionally or unintentionally, we will lose taste in chanting the names constantly.
3. By hearing Krishna's pure and transcendental glories, devotees also become pure and transcendental and immune to all materialistic fruitive activities.

We were discussing the glorious example of HG Rasada prabhuji, disciple of Srila Prabhupada and in his initial days in the movement. Now we shall see further.

Although some devotees considered him dull-headed, called him as "Pig-pen", crazy, fit for nothing, trouble-maker etc, Prabhuji was able to continue to advance in his spiritual journey very nicely. He not only got initiated by Srila Prabhupada, but later emerged as such a wonderful devotee - very enthusiastically distributed so many of Srila Prabhupada's books, gave wonderful classes, inspired so many people to take to Krishna consciousness and in the end gloriously left his body in Sri dham Vrindavan amidst wonderful kirtan by devotees.

For a moment we can try to introspect our own reaction as to how we would react when fellow-devotees treat us in the same way as they did that Prabhuji. The glorious quality in Rasada Prabhuji is that he always acknowledged the mercy of spiritual master, had 100% faith on the truth that Srila Prabhupada had saved him and was only focussed on how to serve His Divine Grace. Although each one of us are saved by mercy of Sri Guru and Srila Prabhupada, most of the time we don't realise their greatness, kindness, nor do we acknowledge it or try to serve with feeling of gratitude. As a result we are unable to do 'kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ'.  Mahaprabhu says in His Sikshastakam

tṛṇād api sunīcena taror api sahiṣṇunā
amāninā mānadena kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ

One can chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking himself lower than the straw in the street. One should be more tolerant than the tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige and ready to offer all respects to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly.

So instead of keeping our own interests, day we start appreciating the mercy of our spiritual masters and all the Vaishnavas, stop expecting respect for our ownselves, but fully focus on serving the spiritual master's mission, then we would be able to do kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ. Devotional service is so sublime that process and goal are both same - kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
