Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.
This is in continuation of the transcription of one of the nectarean discussion by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Auckland on 15th July 2003. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj that.
1. Prabhupada helps us to realise our true ego that we are servants of Krishna.
2. Unless Krishna sanctions our plans won't work.
3. We thank everyone except Krishna. That is our ignorance.
4. To the degree we forget Krishna’s names, to that degree only we are miserable. And if you want to reduce the misery, this is the only effective medicine.
Maharaj: The thing is, as soon as you come to this conclusion, then we know the direction in our life. And as soon as you got the direction, then you please go ahead. When the railway train is on the railways, then it can run very fast. Otherwise, if it goes off the rails, then there is an accident. This is the thing. As soon as we come to this conclusion, then our direction of life is clear. And once you are very clear regarding the object, we are following, then we can guide others also. This is the way to propagate. As soon as you try to convince others, this is our greatest pious activity. And it helps us to go very fast on our own spiritual path. Is it very difficult to understand? This is the main thing. All the scriptures, they lead to this effect. Otherwise, there is no use of these scriptures. In order to strengthen the faith in chanting the Name, we have to study different things.
Because our material mind is of such nature that it will never come to this point. There are so many things to be worried about. And that is what our situation is. And moreover, we are in the foreign countries again. So, again we remember India, we remember our relations there and then again we try to organise here, all these things they crowd around in our mind and they destroy the whole thing. Please, this is worth remembering. And as soon as we come to this conclusion, our path is very clear. You know there was Surdas in our country. He was a devotee poet. Surdas was a very good devotee. And in 10th Canto of Bhagavatam there is Bhramara Geet, prayers, and hardly there are eleven verses or so, very few verses are there. Hardly very few verses. But Surdas has compiled 300 bhajans on that Bhramara Geet. Please, remember these things. He was famous also as a poet.
That time, there was King Akbar there. So Akbar had heard about the devotion of Surdas. So, he thought that, "I will invite him and hear the songs." What happened was, regarding Akbar, he was raised, as a small child, in the neighborhood of Hindus. So, he had a great regard for Hinduism. So at times he wanted to hear about Him, so he invited Surdas. And he said that “I heard that you are a very good devotee, so sing the bhajan”. So Surdas one after the other, one after the other kept singing. And so many bhajans he sang. So Akbar was very pleased, he said “oh, you are a really a nice devotee”. There are so many bhajans, in the course of time we may sing some here. But then what happened that Akbar was very pleased with him. Now he said “Enough of it. Now you praise me”. So Surdas sang very nice bhajan. That bhajan we should sing today here, so you know.
nahin rahiyo man me ṭhoul. nahin means there is no place, nahin means no, that is nahin in Vrajavasi bhaasha. Then he says that in my mind, there is no place for these things. thour means place. And then he said that nandanandana achata kaise ur me aniye aur. He says that in my mind there is only Nandanandan. In my mind how can I bring you? This is very nice. Nahin rahiyo man me ṭhoul nandanandana achata kaise ur me aniye aur. nahin rahiyo man me ṭhoul nandanandana achata kaise ur me aniye aur, how can I bring when my whole mind is covered by Nandanandan. So how can I bring these other things in my mind? This should be our way! The whole of our existence, the mind is the controlling sense, mind controls the whole activities of our senses, body, everything. So, it should be covered with Nandanandan only. Enough of it, we have done other things. Enough, enough is enough.
This is Surdas’s condition. And then he goes further, calata chitavata dhaus jaagata – Cala chitavata, in my cit, in my mind always it is going on. Dhaus means divas, during the day. Then jaagat- while I am awake, svapan- while I am dreaming, sovat- while I am sleeping, raati- during the night. See, it is a nice line. calata chitavata dhaus jaagat supan sovan raati. Hindi language those who know, they can relish it. calata chitavata dhaus jaagat supan sovan raati hrdaya te vaha madana murati chinna itavata jaati. For a moment also I don’t forget that murti. hrdaya te vaha madana murati. That Madan murti, I don’t forget for a single second. hrdaya te vaha madana murati chinna itavata jaati, this colloquial Hindi is there, it is a beautiful thing. chinna itavata jaati, here and there – it never goes here and there. calata chitavata dhaus jaagat supan sovan raati hrdaya te vaha madana murati chinna itavata jaati. This should be our condition.
Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva
