Scriptures Strengthen our Faith in Holy Names - Part 6

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of one of the nectarean discussion by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Auckland on 15th July 2003. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj that.

1. Prabhupada helps us to realise our true ego that we are servants of Krishna.
2. Unless Krishna sanctions our plans won't work.
3. We thank everyone except Krishna. That is our ignorance.
4. To the degree we forget Krishna’s names, to that degree only we are miserable. And if you want to reduce the misery, this is the only effective medicine.
5. When Akbar invited Surdas to sing bhajans, Surdas agreed to sing. But later when Akbar wanted Surdas to glorify him, Surdas made it clear that glorification is only for Krishna.

Now we shall hear further.

Maharaj: Those of us who have crossed over the material existence - the children are grown up, may be fortunately we have grandchildren, then they should have only japa mala in their hand. Completely mouth shut up. You may stay in your own houses, but please don’t meddle into these affairs. That should be the case. In young age also we only should allow ourselves to do the prescribed duties, that’s it. And prescribed duty must be performed expertly. According to our age we have the prescribed duties. As soon as the prescribed duty is finished, we should immediately come to this point. There is nice example given in Srimad Bhagavatam – Vṛtrāsura gives instructions to Indra when he was fighting with him. It is a nice story, we will recite sometime. But I will point out to you people, please your minds are young, you preach on these levels. There is a nice verse and in that verse it gives this example. That the cow, it’s calf is very small, so calf does not even stand properly. So, it depends upon the milk. As soon as we come to this point, and see this example is best. The cow is there, the young calf is there. As soon as the young calf is there, it has to depend on the milk of its mother. So, cow goes for grazing during the day and this calf cannot eat. It doesn’t have even proper teeth - it cannot chew the grass or anything. So he eagerly waits for the mother to come back. And in the evening when the cow comes back from the forest, then the owner of the cow, the farmer, releases the calf. And immediately straight away it runs to the mother.

It will never stop. We can tell, “hey, I am giving you a million dollars”. “Forget about it”. “I want to marry you”. “Hey forget about it”, “I want to give you a house”, “forget about it”. He runs straight, that is how. Please, our prescribed duties have to go on. We don’t want to create chaos in the society. The work must go on expertly. But as soon as you finish, then Krishna will see your sincerity and will give you the capacity that within short time you will earn the money and you will have plenty of time to go to these things. Money will also be there, and these things will be given importance. This should be our situation. And as soon as the calf is released, it immediately runs to the mother. The same way, as soon as we are released from these prescribed duties, we straight away go to Bhagavad Gita or Bhagavatam, chanting or whatever. This should be our condition. This is what he is saying. Come on sing nicely.

Maharaj sings nicely: nahin rahiyo man me ṭhoul nandanandana achata kaiyse uru me aniye aur, calata chitavata dhaus jaagata supan sovan raati hrday te vaha madana murati chinaa itavata jaati.

This is first stanza, then now we go to the second stanza. Kahat katha aneka udhau, there are so many other different kathas, I’m not interested. In my heart only that Madan Murthi is there.

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva
Dinavatsala Krishna das
