Scriptures Strengthen our Faith in Holy Names - Part 9

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the transcription of one of the nectarean discussion by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Auckland on 15th July 2003. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj that. we should not get distracted by others, but be determined and focussed in our sadhana. Now we shall hear further.

Maharaj: (Continuing to explain Surdas bhajan on glorification of Krishna)

aneka katha, kahata katha aneka udhau loka lobha dikharayi,
kahata katha aneka udhau loka lobha dikharayi
Kahaa karu cita prema purati ghatana sindhu samaayi
shyaama gaatha saroja aanana lalita gati mrdu haas
.

Shyam gaatha, - "I am always singing the glories of Krishna", saroja, His lotus like, and then His face - aanana, "His face is nice lotus like face and I always sing glories of Him." Lalita gati, "it is very nice moment here and there." Gati, mrdu haas and "He smiles very mildly." His Murti is described.

Shyam gaatata saroja aanana lalita gati mrdu haas
sura aise darasabinu, sura aise darasabinu marata ei locana pyaas

"Just I want to drink that nectarean form and without that I am just dying like the fish taken out of water, how much disturbed the fish is. The same way I am disturbed without that murti." This is our position. And as soon as we come to this conclusion, all different attractions disappear for us.

After all what is to be learnt? We don’t learn anything beyond this. And Surdas how nice, completely ignorant fellow, completely blind, doesn’t know anything in the world, and he has given the correct thing. Can you not follow these things from our culture? This is the gist of the whole thing. Please don’t waver your mind and may Krishna bless us. So nice to see you anyway.

Now I will hear, you have done some verses, with the translations (laughter).

Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare
Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.

As soon as we have time, please just chant. Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. And in order to strengthen the faith in names, we have to read and learn verses and explain to us (ourselves) and explain to the public at large. Otherwise, the gist is Surdas. Please, yes we will hear now.

Devotees began to chant: oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya three times and started reciting SB 1.2.1, SB 1.2.2 and 3

vyāsa uvāca
iti sampraśna-saṁhṛṣṭo viprāṇāṁ raumaharṣaṇiḥ
pratipūjya vacas teṣāṁ pravaktum upacakrame

Ugraśravā [Sūta Gosvāmī], the son of Romaharṣaṇa, being fully satisfied by the perfect questions of the brāhmaṇas, thanked them and thus attempted to reply.

sūta uvāca
yaṁ pravrajantam anupetam apeta-kṛtyaṁ
dvaipāyano viraha-kātara ājuhāva
putreti tan-mayatayā taravo ’bhinedus
taṁ sarva-bhūta-hṛdayaṁ munim ānato ’smi

Śrīla Sūta Gosvāmī said: Let me offer my respectful obeisances unto that great sage [Śukadeva Gosvāmī] who can enter the hearts of all. When he went away to take up the renounced order of life [sannyāsa], leaving home without undergoing reformation by the sacred thread or the ceremonies observed by the higher castes, his father, Vyāsadeva, fearing separation from him, cried out, “O my son!” Indeed, only the trees, which were absorbed in the same feelings of separation, echoed in response to the begrieved father.

yaḥ svānubhāvam akhila-śruti-sāram ekam
adhyātma-dīpam atititīrṣatāṁ tamo ’ndham
saṁsāriṇāṁ karuṇayāha purāṇa-guhyaṁ
taṁ vyāsa-sūnum upayāmi guruṁ munīnām

Let me offer my respectful obeisances unto him [Śuka], the spiritual master of all sages, the son of Vyāsadeva, who, out of his great compassion for those gross materialists who struggle to cross over the darkest regions of material existence, spoke this most confidential supplement to the cream of Vedic knowledge, after having personally assimilated it by experience.

Maharaj: This verse particularly, please remember that Vyasa Bhagavan initiates his son, and this is our parampara, Prabhupada also initiates us, and we also initiate others in turn. Please, this is the secret of the initiation. Here it is very clear. See yaḥ means those who people sva anubhava self-assimilated (experience). We have all essence of śrutis, essence of Bhagavatam, Prabhupada’s Bhagavatam is there, we have essence with us. See, akhila-śruti-sāram ekam, there are two things, one is our own experience and on the other hand we have the essence of Bhagavatam or Bhagavad Gita or whatever. Please remember these things.

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva
