Scriptures Strengthen our Faith in Holy Names - Part 11

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in conclusion of the transcription of one of the nectarean discussion by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Auckland on 15th July 2003. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj that we should hear Bhagavatam and speak Bhagavatam. Nothing else should be the subject of our hearing and speech. Now we shall hear further.

Maharaj: "Don’t be unnecessarily misguided by the unnecessary forces. Anybody comes, we say that, "this is our way, we are very busy, if you want to participate you are welcome, have prasadam and go away please." Our only job is this. We don’t spend a single second in other nonsensical talks. Please, please, save yourself. You please, like a silk cocoon, silk inside, he builds a cocoon around himself, so nobody can touch him. So, we should have our cocoon, our strong devotional service. Nobody should budge us from that. And if you are taken away by false propaganda or whatever, you are committing suicide, spiritual suicide, so don’t commit please. It is very difficult to come to this point. Now fortunately we are here, enough is enough, we don’t want to do anything else now. Our clear cut idea.

With all due respect to everybody, we don’t want to criticise, they have world at large, they can do, everybody is free to do anything. We are also equally free to do whatever we believe. So please come to this point, and this will really protect you from the kahat katha aneka udhou. Surdas says, see that time there was no anek katha, but that time also there was diversion. Kahat katha aneka udhou, he says, loka lobha dikharaayi, there are so many lokas, lobha, they are pointing out, "this is better, this is better, come here." We don’t hate anybody; we don’t like anybody. Ours is a chalked-out path and this verse makes it very clear, this verse is very powerful. saṁsāriṇāṁ karuṇaya āha, you please speak, karuṇa, with mercy we speak if there is somebody to hear, otherwise we are alright. We are already dedicated to this. This is our completely chalked-out path. And Surdas also seconds us.

And then further regarding Surdas, that Akbar said, “Alright, you don’t want to sing my glories alright, but I am pleased with you, so please ask now. Because from my darbar, nobody should go out empty handed”. So, Surdas said that, “I am simple, I don’t have any needs, so I don’t require anything”. (Akbar said) “No, no” he said, “you can’t do that way, you must ask something”. So, Surdas said “please, Badshah, I am telling you that I am very simple, I have everything what I want, I don’t want anything”. “No, no” he said. (Surdas said) “Since you are insisting so much, so I will ask you one thing. He said “give me one thing”. Akbar said, “Come on speak out” he said, “I will give you”. And he asked one thing, see what he asked – “henceforth you should never invite me to your court and break my bhajan”. This is how. (Out of humility Maharaj says) Otherwise, if I would have been there, I will say that again and again I will come, and in the whole town, I will broadcast that "Akbar invites me, Akbar invites me." Please, Surdas was completely devoid of this respect or disrespect. This is pure devotee. He doesn’t want any distraction, he doesn’t want his name, fame, nothing.

na dhanaṁ na janaṁ na sundarīṁ
kavitāṁ vā jagad-īśa kāmaye
mama janmani janmanīśvare
bhavatād bhaktir ahaitukī tvayi

He said birth after birth, I don’t mind taking different births, but I must be unflinching devotee of You. That is the only way. Otherwise, people will come and distract the bhajan. You are going on the right lines, please learn these slokas. So nice to hear these, again we will hear tomorrow. I must now retire. Jai Srila Prabhupada Ki Jai!"

Jai His Holiness Srila Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj Ki Jai! Our heartfelt thanks to Maharaj for his sublime class insisting on how scriptural study strengthens our faith in Holy Names.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva
